Leavitt Explains Trump’s Iran ‘Unconditional Surrender’ Demand
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is touting President Donald J. Trump’s military campaign against Iran as a decisive success, arguing that the administration’s aggressive strategy is finally confronting a regime that has threatened American interests for decades.
Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, Leavitt praised the ongoing U.S. military campaign known as Operation Epic Fury, a coordinated effort targeting Iran’s missile systems, nuclear infrastructure, and senior leadership.
“Under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump, the rogue Iranian terrorist regime is being absolutely crushed,” Leavitt said, noting that U.S. and allied forces have already struck more than 2,000 targets since the operation began. “Iran’s murderous, terrorist leaders are paying for their crimes against America — and they are playing in blood.”
According to the White House, the campaign represents a dramatic shift from what officials describe as years of weak or ineffective policy toward Tehran.
Leavitt argued that the current administration is reversing that approach and directly confronting the threat posed by Iran’s regime.
“President Trump is finally the man of action. President Trump does not bluff,” she said.
In a detailed post on X, Leavitt outlined what she described as the administration’s core objectives in the campaign against Iran.
Destroy the Iranian regime’s missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground. Annihilate the Iranian regime’s Navy. Ensure the regime’s terrorist proxies can no longer destabilize the region or the world and attack our forces.
Stop them from making and using IEDs or roadside bombs, which have gravely wounded and killed thousands and thousands of people, including many Americans. Guarantee that Iran can NEVER obtain a nuclear weapon. Preventing this radical regime and its terrorist leaders from threatening America and our core national security interests is a clear-eyed and necessary objective.
Killing terrorists is good for America. 49 of the most senior Iranian regime leaders – including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei – have already been wiped off the face of the Earth so far in the opening strikes of Operation Epic Fury. Finally, while Operation Midnight Hammer did obliterate Iran’s major nuclear sites, the regime was fully committed to rebuilding their nuclear program, and they REFUSED to make a deal, despite months of extensive talks and good faith efforts by President Trump’s top negotiators.
Simply put, the terrorist Iranian regime would not say yes to peace.
Leavitt also argued that Iran’s leadership has spent decades supporting terrorism and promoting violence against the United States and its allies.
For 47 years, the Iranian regime has actively and intentionally facilitated the killing of Americans while chanting “death to America” and funding other bloodthirsty terrorists seeking to destroy the United States and all of Western Civilization. Prior American leaders were too weak and cowardly to do anything about it. Now, President Donald J. Trump is correcting decades of cowardice and holding those responsible for the deaths of Americans accountable.
Their brutal attacks and threats will finally end under President Trump. America will win – the terrorists will be defeated.
When asked by reporters what President Trump meant when he demanded Iran’s “unconditional surrender,” Leavitt explained that the administration views the term as a strategic outcome rather than a formal declaration.
She said that moment will arrive when the president determines that Iran no longer poses a threat to the United States and the mission’s objectives have been fully achieved.
“Then Iran will essentially be in a place of unconditional surrender,” she told reporters outside the White House. “whether they say it themselves or not. Frankly they don’t have a lot of people to say that for them.”
Leavitt was also asked about reports that the Pentagon is investigating whether a U.S. strike may have hit an Iranian girls’ school during the campaign.
“Again, as I said at the briefing two days ago, I don’t have any updates with respect to the investigation. I would expect those to come from the Pentagon,” she said.
Meanwhile, President Trump hinted late last week that additional steps could be taken to secure Iran’s nuclear materials.
Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump suggested that a small ground force could potentially be deployed to the city of Isfahan to retrieve approximately 970 pounds of uranium currently enriched to about 60 percent purity—below the roughly 90 percent threshold required for weapons-grade material.
“We wouldn’t do it now,” Trump said.
The administration maintains that preventing Iran from ever obtaining a nuclear weapon remains the central goal of Operation Epic Fury, as the United States and its allies continue applying pressure on the regime.
