Lefty Radio Personality Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting Fiancé
Longtime Philadelphia sports radio personality Mike Missanelli was arrested early Wednesday morning after police responded to a reported domestic disturbance at his home in the Wynnewood section of Lower Merion Township, Pennsylvania.
Authorities say the 70-year-old broadcaster now faces one misdemeanor charge of simple assault along with a summary offense of harassment stemming from the incident. According to NBC Philadelphia, officers were dispatched to the residence shortly after 12:10 a.m. following a 911 hang-up call.
A criminal complaint indicates that an argument between Missanelli and his fiancée escalated into a physical confrontation. Missanelli told responding officers the pair had a “scuffle” during a disagreement about their engagement and claimed she struck him in the chest. Police noted that they observed no visible injuries on him.
His fiancée, however, gave investigators a different account. She alleged that Missanelli struck her on the left side of her face and head during the altercation. Officers reported seeing a laceration with fresh blood and swelling near her ear, according to local reports.
Police took Missanelli into custody at the scene. He was later released after a preliminary arraignment before John I. McMahon Jr., who set unsecured bail at $10,000 and issued a no-contact order.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 22 before Karen Eisner Zucker in Montgomery County, according to PhillyVoice.
A Media Career Marked by Sports—and Politics
Missanelli has long been a recognizable voice in Philadelphia sports media, with a career spanning several decades across newspapers, radio, and television.
He initially built his reputation as a sports columnist for The Philadelphia Inquirer before moving into sports talk radio. During his time at SportsRadio 94 WIP, he hosted popular programs until his departure in 2006 following an on-air dispute with a producer.
In 2010, Missanelli resurfaced at 97.5 The Fanatic, where he became a prominent midday and afternoon host. His show consistently ranked among the top performers in the Philadelphia radio market and was simulcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia.
He has also appeared on national radio, including guest spots and co-hosting duties with Stephen A. Smith on ESPN New York, and contributed commentary across several media platforms.
Increasingly Political Commentary
In recent years, Missanelli’s sports commentary often veered into political territory, with the host frequently injecting left-leaning viewpoints into his broadcasts and social media posts.
Mike Missanelli has a long history of being a diva in the Philadelphia sports radio scene, as well as a long history of assault.

During the presidency of Donald J. Trump, Missanelli became an outspoken critic of the president and his supporters.
He has referred to Trump as a “misogynistic pig who abuses women” and frequently mocked supporters of the MAGA movement online. In one social media post from January 2024, he wrote:
“I’m an Independent who abhors a racist slime like Trump and am repulsed by supporters of his despicable ass. Because if you support Trump, you enable racism. G’nite.”
Network Suspends Podcast Role
Missanelli’s current media employer quickly responded after news of the charges surfaced.
Fideri News Network, the parent company of the OnPattison podcast network, confirmed the situation in a statement released by Chief of Staff and spokesperson Olivia DeMarco.
“The Fideri News Network, corporate parent of On Pattison, became aware of the charges against Mike Missanelli this afternoon through media reports. In light of the nature of the allegations, Mike will not be a part of the On Pattison Podcast during the legal process,” DeMarco said. “Fideri News understands the serious nature of these allegations and condemns all acts of domestic violence. We will continue to monitor the situation.”
Separate Arrest in Fatal San Francisco Shooting
In an unrelated case on the West Coast, authorities in San Francisco announced the arrest of a man who previously claimed to have worked alongside federal protective teams.
Police say Nation Wood, 25, was taken into custody Wednesday in connection with the fatal shooting of Samantha Emge, 22.
According to reports cited by The New York Post, officers responded to a home in the city’s Sunset District around 10:43 p.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of a shooting. They discovered Emge suffering from a gunshot wound.
She was transported to a hospital but later died from her injuries. Investigators gathered evidence at the scene and arrested Wood on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, police said.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
