Mamdani’s Wife Apologizes For Resurfaced Vile Social Media Posts
Rama Duwaji, the wife of Zohran Mamdani, is facing renewed scrutiny after previously undisclosed social media posts resurfaced containing offensive language and references to individuals associated with Palestinian militant organizations. In her first public remarks since her husband assumed office in January, Duwaji acknowledged the controversy and expressed regret over her past conduct.
In an interview with Hyperallergic, Duwaji addressed the posts, which reportedly date back to her teenage years. While noting her age at the time, she made clear that it does not justify the content she shared, according to Fox News.
“When a tabloid recently published old tweets I wrote as a teenager, I felt a lot of shame being confronted with language I used that is so harmful to others; being 15 doesn’t excuse it,” she said.
The controversy stems from a report published in March that connected Duwaji to an old X account and Tumblr activity. According to the report, the account circulated content that praised individuals tied to organizations designated by the United States as terrorist groups, in addition to posts containing racially charged and anti-gay slurs.
One example cited in the report included a repost referencing Shadia Abu Ghazaleh, described as a “resistance fighter.” Ghazaleh was affiliated with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, an entity officially recognized by the U.S. government as a terrorist organization.
Additional posts allegedly included inflammatory rhetoric, including a claim that Tel Aviv “shouldn’t even exist in the first place,” as well as language targeting racial groups and members of the LGBTQ community.
Duwaji acknowledged the backlash and stated that she takes responsibility for her actions, emphasizing that she has listened to critics and understands the damage her words caused.
“I’ve read and seen a lot of what others have had to say in response, and I understand the hurt I caused and am truly sorry,” she said.
The X account linked to the posts was reportedly deleted shortly after the report became public. Duwaji’s interview marks her first direct response to the allegations.

The resurfaced posts come amid broader concerns surrounding Duwaji’s activism and artistic work. Earlier this year, she drew criticism for contributing an illustration to an essay on Gaza authored by a writer who had publicly praised the October 7 Hamas attacks.
Mamdani addressed that controversy in March, distancing his wife from the author’s remarks and condemning the rhetoric.
“I think that that rhetoric is patently unacceptable. I think it’s reprehensible,” Mamdani said. “And as is common for freelance illustrators, the First Lady was commissioned to illustrate an excerpt of a book by a third party. She has never engaged with or met with the author, nor had she seen the tweets that you’re referring to,” he said.
A representative for Mamdani did not immediately respond to a Fox News request for further comment.
