Mike Huckabee Threatens to Declare Israel 'No Longer Welcoming' to Christian Organizations After 'Shocking' Policy Change

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee is taking a bold stand against what he calls targeted discrimination by the Israeli government toward American Christian organizations—warning that unless the hostility ends, he may advise millions of Christians to stop supporting or visiting the Jewish state.

In a sharply worded letter to Israeli Interior Minister Moshe Arbel, Huckabee wrote that he may soon be forced to publicly declare that Israel “is no longer welcoming Christian organizations” if the current policies continue.

The letter, sent Wednesday and released Thursday, slams Israel’s refusal to issue visas to numerous U.S.-based Christian groups, including long-established ministries like the Baptist Convention in Israel and the Christian Missionary Alliance.

“We feel we are being treated as adversaries,” Huckabee wrote.

This is not a trivial concern for the ambassador. Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor and longtime Christian pastor, has led pilgrimages to Israel for over 50 years. His personal and spiritual ties to the region run deep, making the current situation all the more painful.

“It is with great distress that I write to you my profound disappointment,” he stated in the letter, which was obtained by The Times of Israel. Despite attempts to resolve the issue during a May 27 meeting with Arbel, Huckabee said little had changed.

He described the treatment of Christian groups as “harassment and negative treatment,” noting that visa applications submitted early in the year have gone unanswered. For organizations that have supported Israel unwaveringly for decades, the current climate feels like betrayal.

Worse still, Huckabee says some groups are being subjected to burdensome investigations and bureaucratic stalling tactics, a move that appears more ideological than administrative.

“If the government of Israel continues to cause the expense and bureaucratic harassment,” Huckabee warned, “I will have no other choice” but to consider imposing reciprocal visa restrictions on Israeli citizens.

Huckabee also said he would consider advising American Christians to stop donating to or visiting Israel altogether—a move that would deal a serious blow to the country’s tourism economy and grassroots support in the U.S.

“It would be very unfortunate that our embassy would have to publicly announce throughout the United States that the State of Israel is no longer welcoming Christian organizations,” he wrote.

The Times of Israel confirmed Huckabee sent copies of his letter to top Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to The Christian Post, tensions between Christian ministries and Israel’s ultra-Orthodox-dominated interior ministry have been simmering for years. Ultra-Orthodox leaders have accused Christian tourists of attempting to "missionize" Jews—an accusation often used to justify discrimination against Christian and Messianic Jewish visitors.

While President Donald J. Trump’s administration has stood firmly with Israel, this latest dust-up raises serious questions about how Christian allies are being treated by one of America’s closest partners in the region.
