Most Americans Still Back Top Trump, GOP Priorities: Border and Economy
Republicans have decisively pulled ahead of Democrats on the two issues that matter most to American voters—the economy and inflation—as public confidence in President Donald Trump’s economic leadership continues to rebound.
According to the latest Napolitan News Survey, the GOP now holds an 8-point advantage on the economy (R+8) and a 6-point lead on inflation (R+6). Just last month, polling showed Democrats closing the gap during a period of tariff tensions, with numbers briefly leveling out (R+1 on the economy, D+4 on inflation). But this month’s figures signal a return to the broader trend observed earlier in the year, when Republicans dominated the conversation on both fronts (R+10 on the economy in January and February, R+11 and R+9 on inflation in February and January, respectively).
This Republican resurgence is no accident. Voters appear to be responding favorably to President Trump’s bold new trade deal with China, which has boosted optimism among business owners and working Americans alike. With inflation (29%) and the economy (25%) still topping the list of voter concerns, the momentum is clearly shifting back toward the America First agenda.
Immigration and health care followed as the next most pressing issues, each named by 12% of respondents. The GOP maintains a strong edge on immigration (R+16), while Democrats continue to be more trusted on health care (D+12). When asked more broadly which party they trust most overall, 42% chose Republicans, 41% picked Democrats, 6% trusted both, and 10% trusted neither, according to the Napolitan News Service.
But nowhere is the contrast between the parties more evident than in the debate over immigration enforcement.
President Trump is now urging the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene after a Biden-appointed judge threw a wrench into ongoing deportations of violent criminal aliens. The President blasted what he called judicial overreach by Judge Brian Murphy, who was nominated by Joe Biden to the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts.
Murphy blocked the deportation of illegal immigrants en route to South Sudan, insisting it violated one of his prior rulings. In April, the judge ruled that deportable aliens must be allowed to argue whether their safety would be compromised if sent to a third country. That controversial decision has already delayed flights to Libya—and now, to South Sudan as well.
In an emergency hearing, Murphy declared that the eight illegal aliens on board—each with convictions for violent crimes—were not given a fair opportunity to object before being flown to a war-torn region. Despite these individuals having gone through the legal process, the judge ruled that their deportation must be halted.
The Justice Department disagreed. As Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller pointed out, each individual had already received due process.
“A local city judge in Boston has halted the deportation of 8 convicted and ultra-violent illegal alien murderers and child predators and forced ICE officers to live with them full time — without secure housing — while the Boston judge tries to fly them back to America,” Miller posted on X, sharing screenshots of the DOJ rebuttal.

Judge Murphy further ordered that the detainees, now grounded at a U.S. military base in Djibouti, must receive 72 hours’ notice before undergoing “credible fear screenings” and be granted 15 days to reopen their immigration cases if they can demonstrate a “credible fear” of persecution.
President Trump didn’t mince words in response:
“A Federal Judge in Boston, who knew absolutely nothing about the situation, or anything else, has ordered that EIGHT of the most violent criminals on Earth curtail their journey to South Sudan, and instead remain in Djibouti,” he wrote on Truth Social. “He would not allow these monsters to proceed to their final destination.”
“The Judges are absolutely out of control, they’re hurting our Country, and they know nothing about particular situations, or what they are doing — And this must change, IMMEDIATELY!”
As President Trump fights to restore sanity to the immigration system and put American safety first, the numbers speak for themselves. Voters are once again turning to Republican leadership on the issues that affect their daily lives—jobs, prices, borders, and the rule of law.
