Nancy Guthrie Family Makes New Appeal To Mother’s Kidnappers
“Today” show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie and her siblings released a public video appeal Tuesday, directly addressing anyone who may be holding their missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, and urging them to provide proof that she is alive, according to family members and law enforcement.
In the emotional message posted online, Guthrie spoke straight to a possible kidnapper—or anyone with credible information—making clear the family is seeking verified proof of life, not threats, rumors, or unsubstantiated claims. She and her siblings asked that any communication be routed through law enforcement and accompanied by evidence confirming Nancy Guthrie’s safety.
“We received your message and we understand,” Savannah said, seated alongside her brother Camron and sister Annie. “We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace.”
“This is very valuable to us, and we will pay,” Savannah Guthrie added in closing, holding her siblings’ hands.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on Jan. 31 after failing to appear for a planned outing with family members. She disappeared from her home in the Catalina Foothills area north of Tucson, prompting authorities to treat the case as a potential abduction. Federal and local law enforcement agencies have been assisting in the investigation.
Officials have acknowledged receiving one or more ransom-related communications but have cautioned the public that none have been authenticated or confirmed to include proof of life. Investigators stressed that any correspondence should not be assumed legitimate until fully verified.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation continue to pursue leads and have urged anyone with information to contact authorities. Law enforcement has not identified any suspects or persons of interest and has declined to discuss specific investigative details.
Two notes connected to the case were sent to local television station KOLD. Jessica Bobula, the station’s news director, told NBC News that the first message arrived through the station’s news tip system on Monday, with a second received just before noon on Friday.
Bobula said neither note provided proof of life, though the first claimed Guthrie was fine. The second note, she explained, “was certainly not a ransom demand,” noting that it did not request money and differed “in almost every way” from the first. One note did not include an image of Guthrie but instead offered “a description.”
Bobula added that the sender of the second note appeared to be attempting to establish that they were the same individual responsible for the first message.
President Donald J. Trump addressed the case Friday, stating that investigators have uncovered what he described as “very strong clues” in Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance and suggesting authorities may have answers soon.
Speaking to reporters, President Trump said recent developments have produced promising leads, though he declined to provide specifics due to the ongoing investigation.
“I’ll give you a little statement, I think we’re doing very well in that regard,” Trump said, according to People Magazine.

“You’re probably surprised to hear that. I think we’re doing very well, meaning we have some clues I think that are very strong, and I think we could have some answers coming up fairly soon,” Trump added.
When asked about the search and where Guthrie might be, Trump responded: “I’m not talking about a search, I’m talking about a solution.”
“We have some things that I think that we’ll maybe come out reasonably soon from DOJ or FBI or whoever that could be definitive,” he said. “A lot’s taken place in the last couple of hours. A lot of things have happened with regard to that horrible situation in the last couple of hours.”
