Nancy Mace, Ilhan Omar Trade Barbs Over Charlie Kirk Remarks
A war of words erupted this week between Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), after Omar made inflammatory remarks about the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
Speaking to the far-left outlet Zeteo, Omar attacked Kirk’s legacy just days after his death, accusing him of having “downplayed slavery” and dismissing his opposition to recognizing Juneteenth. She then went further, blasting Republicans for their reaction to the killing.
“There are a lot of people who are talking about him [Kirk] just wanting to have a civil debate,” Omar scoffed. “These people are full of s— and it’s important for us to call them out while we feel anger and sadness.”
Omar continued: “There is nothing more f—ed up than to pretend that his words and actions haven’t been recorded and in existence for the last decade or so.”
The Minnesota Democrat also drew criticism for appearing to grin while discussing Kirk’s death during a podcast with left-wing commentator Mehdi Hassan.

Mace Fires Back
Mace immediately took to X (formerly Twitter), telling Omar:
“If you celebrate murder, maybe Somalia can take you back.”
Omar shot back by insulting Mace’s sobriety, writing that her GOP colleague “belongs in rehab, not Congress.”
Mace doubled down:
“One-way ticket to Somalia with your name on it, Ilhan Omar.”
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Mace said Omar had mocked the murder of Kirk, who was a husband and father of two.
“Now she’s lashing out because we called her out. What’s not ‘well’ is celebrating political violence. What’s not ‘smart’ is defending it. Omar should be ashamed of herself. Omar can throw insults all day, but it won’t save her from accountability. She crossed the line, and we’re not letting her get away with it. Go back to Somalia.”
Failed Censure Vote
Mace also led a House resolution to censure Omar and remove her from committee assignments, but the measure failed Wednesday by a single vote, 214–213. Four Republicans — Mike Flood (Neb.), Jeff Hurd (Colo.), Tom McClintock (Calif.), and Cory Mills (Fla.) — joined Democrats in voting against the censure.
Mace blasted her GOP colleagues, writing on X:
“4 Republicans sold out tonight. They sided with Democrats to protect Ilhan Omar.”
Prominent conservatives quickly weighed in:
- Laura Loomer called the vote “outrageous,” asking why any Republican would “vote to protect this jihadist.”
- Mark Levin denounced the four GOP defectors as “disgraceful,” adding that they should all be primaried and defeated.
Democrats Deflect, Blame Trump
While conservatives defended Kirk’s legacy, Democrats downplayed Omar’s behavior. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker shifted blame to President Donald Trump, claiming his rhetoric “foments political violence.”
Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) attempted to split the difference, telling CNN that “rhetoric from both sides” can fuel unrest — a move critics saw as moral equivalence that trivialized the assassination of a young conservative leader.
A Chilling Reminder
Kirk, just 31 years old, was shot and killed last week while delivering a speech to more than 3,000 people at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. His assassination has shaken conservatives nationwide, while Omar’s gleeful rhetoric has only deepened the outrage.
