New Poll Shows Democrats Dramatically Less Patriotic Than Republicans

As Americans prepare to celebrate the birth of the greatest nation on Earth, a stark new poll confirms what many conservatives have long suspected: patriotism is alive and well on the right—but rapidly collapsing on the left.

A survey released this week by National Research Inc., a GOP-affiliated firm, reveals that 91% of Republicans say they consider themselves patriots, while only half of Democrats say the same. The findings, first reported by The New York Post, underscore a deepening cultural divide just as the nation commemorates Independence Day.

The gap is just as wide when broken down by 2024 voting patterns. Among Trump supporters, 90% identify as patriotic. Among voters who supported Kamala Harris, that number plummets to 55%.

Similarly, 87% of conservatives say they are proud to be Americans. That figure drops off a cliff among liberals—just 51%.

“This isn’t just about who won the last election,” said Adam Geller, founder of National Research and a key pollster for Trump’s 2016 campaign. “We need to have a country where even if you don’t love the president, you’re still proud to be an American—you still hold those values.”

But in 2025, those values appear increasingly out of fashion on the political left.

Gallup Poll Shows Record Low Pride Among Democrats

Geller’s numbers are further backed by Gallup, which released a separate survey this week showing just 36% of Democrats now say they are “extremely” or “very” proud to be American. That’s the lowest figure Gallup has ever recorded for Democrats, and a steep drop from 62% just last year.

By contrast, Republican pride has surged—up seven points to 92%, according to Gallup.

Even among independents, pride is slipping, with just 53% saying they are proud to be American, down seven points from 2024.

Overall, only 58% of Americans now say they are either extremely (41%) or very (17%) proud to be Americans. That’s a nine-point decline from last year and the lowest level Gallup has recorded since it began asking the question.

In January 2001, 87% of Americans reported being proud. That number soared to 91% after the September 11 attacks. Today, those numbers have cratered—especially among young Americans.

Generational Breakdown: Gen Z Least Proud of All

Gallup’s generational data paints a sobering picture. Just 41% of Gen Z say they’re very or extremely proud to be American. Millennials follow at 58%, Gen X at 71%, and Baby Boomers lead the way at 75%.

“It is a surprising finding, and sobering,” said Geller. “It’s a little breathtaking.”

Gallup editor Jeffrey Jones acknowledged the sharp generational divide and pointed to an unmistakable trend: “Each generation is less patriotic than the prior generation, and Gen Z is definitely much lower than anybody else,” he said.

But even more troubling, according to Jones, is what’s driving the decline: Democrats across all generations are losing pride in the nation, dragging national averages downward year after year.

One Democrat Speaks Out—Sort Of

In a rare show of disagreement with his own party, Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman took to X to push back—gently.

“Last week, Gallup polled only 36% of Democrats are ‘extremely or very proud’ to be American. In the greatest country in the world, that’s just wrong,” Fetterman posted. “I’m unapologetically grateful for our nation and the American Way of Life—today, and always.”

While Fetterman’s words are a step in the right direction, they highlight the problem: He’s the exception. The Democratic Party of 2025 has embraced an identity rooted in grievance, self-loathing, and globalism—leaving patriotism behind.

As President Donald J. Trump leads the nation in his second term, Republicans remain overwhelmingly proud of their country and committed to preserving the principles that made it great—freedom, faith, family, and individual responsibility.

For Democrats and their allies in academia, media, and the activist class, American pride appears to be just another casualty of their cultural revolution.
