New Updates in Charlie Kirk Case After ‘Crucial Evidence’ Located

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox confirmed over the weekend that Tyler Robinson — the 22-year-old suspect accused of assassinating Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk — is refusing to cooperate with law enforcement, even as those closest to him provide critical information to investigators.

“He [Robinson] has not confessed to authorities. He is not cooperating, but all the people around him are cooperating. And I think that’s very important,” Cox said during a round of Sunday show interviews.

Cox revealed that Robinson’s live-in partner — a biological male transitioning to female — has been assisting the FBI. “The roommate was a romantic partner, a male transitioning to female. This partner has been incredibly cooperative [and] had no idea that this was happening. And he’s working with investigators right now,” Cox told CNN’s State of the Union.

The governor has repeatedly described Robinson as “deeply indoctrinated in leftist ideology,” telling NBC’s Meet the Press that the suspect’s radical views were “very different than his conservative family.” He placed much of the blame on toxic online platforms, blasting Big Tech for fostering political extremism.

“I believe that social media has played a direct role in every single assassination and assassination attempt that we have seen over the last five, six years. There is no question in my mind,” Cox said. “Cancer probably isn’t a strong enough word.”

Robinson was captured last Thursday after being on the run for 33 hours. His own father recognized him in FBI surveillance images and turned him in after consulting with a family preacher, according to Fox News Digital.

Sources told the outlet that Robinson told his father he intended to kill himself when confronted.

On Monday, FBI Director Kash Patel disclosed that text messages recovered during the investigation show Robinson boasting of his intent to assassinate Kirk. In one exchange with a friend, Robinson said he had an opportunity to “take out Charlie Kirk” and that he was “going to do it.”

Patel further revealed that DNA evidence links Robinson to the attack. Investigators matched his DNA to a towel wrapped around the rifle used in the shooting, as well as to a screwdriver found abandoned on the roof of Utah Valley University.

Robinson is being held in the Utah County Sheriff’s Department’s special housing unit under “special watch” while he awaits a full mental health evaluation. Officials emphasized that this precautionary status is standard in cases involving violent crimes and does not necessarily mean Robinson has expressed suicidal thoughts.

“He will continue to be monitored by mental, medical, and custody staff throughout the duration of his stay,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement.

Formal charges against Robinson are expected Tuesday.
