Newsom Smears ICE Day Before Another Attack On Detention Facility

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), already positioning himself for a 2028 presidential run, used a late-night TV appearance Tuesday to push dangerous falsehoods about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents—just hours before another violent assault on one of the agency’s detention facilities.

In an interview with embattled host Stephen Colbert, Newsom accused ICE officers of abducting people without due process, painting them as masked kidnappers instead of law enforcement professionals carrying out court-ordered deportations.

“That’s happening in the United States of America. Masked men jumping out of unmarked cars. People disappearing. No due process. No oversight. Zero accountability,” Newsom claimed. “People ask, ‘Is it authoritarianism? You’re being hyperbolic.’ Bullshit we’re being hyperbolic.”

The Democrat governor went further, playing the race card by accusing President Trump’s administration of deliberately targeting minorities:
“And so I — I’m deeply proud that I had the privilege of signing the nation’s first bill to address the issue of masking, also to require you have simple identification, to your point. I mean if some guy jumped out of an unmarked car and a van with a mask on tried to grab me — I mean by definition you’re going to push back. And so this — these — these are not just authoritarian tendencies, these are authoritarian actions by an authoritarian government.”

What Newsom deliberately ignored is the reason ICE officers often conceal their identities: left-wing activists and even Democrat politicians have doxxed them, endangering their families. These agents are not “disappearing” people—they are executing removal orders issued by federal immigration judges.

Newsom’s inflammatory rhetoric came just hours before a gunman attacked an ICE detention facility in Dallas, Texas.

Authorities say the shooting occurred at around 7:30 a.m. while ICE officers were transferring detainees. The attacker attempted to storm the facility as the sally port opened, firing multiple rounds before killing himself.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the incident, writing on X:
“There was a shooting this morning at the Dallas ICE Detention Facility. Details are still emerging but we can confirm there were multiple injuries and fatalities. The shooter is deceased by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

She continued: “While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families.”

Fox News reported that three people were shot, including two fatalities. Thankfully, no law enforcement officers were injured.

Vice President JD Vance condemned the escalating hostility against ICE: “The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families.”

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz also weighed in, thanking first responders and pledging to monitor the investigation closely:
“My team and I are closely monitoring the situation at the ICE Detention Facility in Dallas. We are praying for the swift recovery of those injured, and we are deeply grateful to the brave first responders who rushed to the scene.”

Newsom, meanwhile, has stoked fresh outrage with a taunting social media post aimed at Secretary Noem. Over the weekend, his team wrote: “Kristi Noem is going to have a bad day today. You’re welcome, America”—a gloating remark tied to his signing of anti-ICE measures that are almost certain to be overturned in federal court.

Rather than supporting law enforcement under siege, the California governor continues to smear the very officers protecting American communities. His reckless words may earn applause from the radical left, but they risk emboldening those willing to carry out violence against federal agents.
