NY AG Letitia James To Launch Portal That Doxes ICE Agents

New York Attorney General Letitia James is under fire after openly inviting the public to collect and upload photos and videos of federal ICE officers to a new state-run surveillance portal — a move critics say is designed to intimidate and obstruct federal immigration enforcement.

The portal was announced after ICE agents conducted a raid along Canal Street in Manhattan that resulted in the arrest of nine criminal illegal aliens.

“We’re launching a portal to review federal immigration enforcement in New York after yesterday’s ICE raid on Canal Street,” James wrote on X.

“New Yorkers who were present should submit videos or photos, and we will review and investigate any violations of the law,” she added.

The instruction raises immediate concerns because James did not clarify that the “New Yorkers” she is referring to include foreign nationals in the country illegally — who have no legal right to residency in the state.

Her call comes just days after Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) announced that Democrats on the House Oversight Committee plan to unveil a centralized system to track ICE activity nationwide.

“Over the course of the next couple of weeks, the Oversight Committee will be launching on their website a ‘master ICE tracker,’” Garcia said.
“We will be essentially tracking every single instance that we can verify (location of ICE agents).”

Critics say this amounts to a target list for activists.

James defended the push, saying:

“Every New Yorker has the right to live without fear or intimidation. If you witnessed and documented ICE activity yesterday, I urge you to share that footage with my office. We are committed to reviewing these reports and assessing any violations of law. No one should be subject to unlawful questioning, detention, or intimidation.”

Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) also claimed during a press conference that ICE mistakenly detained four U.S. citizens during the raid, calling the enforcement effort “lawless terror.”

Meanwhile, Democrats in other cities are discussing whether state or local police could arrest ICE officers.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi suggested Wednesday that “state and local authorities may arrest federal agents if they break California law.”

Even left-leaning legal scholars acknowledge major constitutional issues.
UC Berkeley Law Dean Erwin Chemerinsky confirmed that “if ICE agents are acting legally, the state can’t prosecute them…” but noted states could pursue charges only if agents “act beyond their legal authority.”

The controversy unfolds as James heads to federal court to face mortgage fraud charges.

The indictment alleges she lied on loan paperwork when purchasing a Norfolk, Virginia home in August 2020. Prosecutors say she claimed the property would be used as a second residence — when she allegedly intended to rent it out, which was prohibited under the loan terms.

By doing so, she received a lower mortgage rate and allegedly saved “approximately $18,933 over the life of the loan.”

The case was referred to the DOJ by Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte earlier this year, leading to the criminal probe and indictment.

James is expected to appear in court in Virginia to enter her plea.
