Obama Shredded Over Criticism of GOP-Led Texas Redistricting Effort

Former President Barack Obama is once again under fire—this time for accusing Texas Republicans of “undermining democracy” while turning a blind eye to blatant gerrymandering in his own backyard: Illinois.

In a Tuesday post on X (formerly Twitter), Obama attacked Texas Republicans over their proposed redistricting plan, claiming, “We can’t lose focus on what matters – right now, Republicans in Texas are trying to gerrymander district lines to unfairly win five seats in next year’s midterm elections. This is a power grab that undermines our democracy.”

His message included promotional material from a left-wing group called the National Redistricting Foundation, which is urging activists to protest the GOP-backed map in a so-called “Texas Call to Action.”

But users across social media weren’t buying the former president’s lecture on fairness. Critics immediately responded by posting images of the Illinois congressional map—one of the most notoriously gerrymandered in the country—which includes a surgically drawn district that snakes awkwardly through the center of the state to dilute conservative votes.

“Spare us the fake outrage,” one user wrote. “Democrats wrote the book on gerrymandering.”

Others called Obama’s post a thinly veiled deflection attempt, pointing to an entirely different firestorm brewing: renewed scrutiny of Obama-era officials tied to the Russia collusion hoax that targeted President Donald J. Trump’s first term.

The storm intensified Monday when Attorney General Pam Bondi directed federal prosecutors to convene a grand jury to investigate whether top officials under Obama fabricated intelligence about Russia’s involvement in the 2016 election. The goal of that effort, according to the DOJ, was to kneecap Trump’s campaign and presidency under false pretenses.

The referral came from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who in July declassified bombshell documents that appear to challenge the legitimacy of the Obama administration’s original Russia narrative.

Gabbard formally requested that the Department of Justice launch a criminal investigation into Barack Obama and key members of his national security team for what she called a “coordinated conspiracy” to interfere with the 2016 election—and the peaceful transfer of power.

Following her referral, Bondi announced the formation of a DOJ “strike force” to review the evidence and prepare legal action if warranted. A DOJ spokesperson said the Attorney General is “taking the referrals from Director Gabbard very seriously,” adding, “There is clear cause for deep concern.”

In the midst of the intensifying legal pressure, President Trump himself weighed in with a viral post on Truth Social, sharing a meme that set the internet ablaze.

The image depicts Trump and Vice President JD Vance in police cars chasing Obama, who is behind the wheel of a white Ford Bronco on a Los Angeles freeway—a parody of the infamous O.J. Simpson police chase from 1994.

While the meme’s exact meaning was left unsaid, its message was crystal clear to millions of MAGA supporters: the law may finally be catching up to Barack Obama.

Obama’s sudden focus on redistricting in Texas has raised eyebrows even among moderates, as Americans increasingly question whether his calls for “democracy” are genuine—or simply political cover while serious investigations close in.

With the Department of Justice and federal grand jury now involved, Obama may soon have bigger problems than defending Illinois’ gerrymandered map.
