Official Says Dems Trying To Create Controversy Over Nonissues At Alligator Alcatraz
Florida officials are pushing back hard after Democrats attempted to stir up media-driven outrage over the state’s new migrant detention facility—nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz”—a secure, no-nonsense complex located deep in the Everglades.
Kevin Guthrie, Florida’s Director of Emergency Management, appeared on Jesse Watters Primetime and exposed what he described as blatant political theater during a recent bipartisan tour of the facility. More than 60 lawmakers toured the site, but according to Guthrie, some came with the intent to create controversy, not gather facts.
“Absolutely,” Guthrie said when asked if Democrats tried to manufacture scandal. “One of my favorites was an individual who had an infrared thermometer and pointed it at a light bulb. And it was 110 degrees. I said, ‘Let’s actually pull that down to where the ambient air is at, and not point it at the light bulb.’”

“There is a sink there, there is a toilet there. Whether you’re brushing your teeth or using the restroom, it’s a restroom. That’s what people do,” he said.
And then came the infamous turkey sandwich incident. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) reportedly described the sandwich as “gray”—without opening the wrapper or even getting near it.

“That might be one of my favorites,” Guthrie chuckled. “She was about six feet away from the turkey sandwich box, that was in a wrapper, so I don’t know how she could tell it was gray. But let’s be honest — hospital food, school lunches under Michelle Obama’s program — it’s the same thing. Nobody’s getting filet mignon.”
Still unhappy, five Democrat state lawmakers filed a lawsuit Thursday against Governor Ron DeSantis, claiming they were unlawfully denied access to the facility earlier this month. They accused the DeSantis administration of obstructing oversight and “hiding” the truth.
“It was a deliberate obstruction meant to hide what’s really happening behind those gates,” the group stated.
The lawsuit, now before the state Supreme Court, argues that DeSantis cannot block legislators from visiting state-run facilities. The governor’s office wasn’t impressed.
A spokesperson dismissed the lawsuit as “dumb” and “frivolous.”
Let’s be honest: Democrats aren’t angry about the conditions at “Alligator Alcatraz”—they’re angry that Florida is finally enforcing immigration law. For too long, the Left has coddled illegal immigrants, offered gift cards, and turned detention centers into taxpayer-funded holding lounges. Those days are over in the Sunshine State.
“If you break federal immigration law — and especially if you commit a violent crime — you’re not getting a resort stay and a gift card,” Guthrie said. “You’re getting a cell.”
That’s the whole point. It’s not supposed to be comfortable. It’s supposed to be a consequence. Illegal immigration isn’t a minor inconvenience—it’s a violation of our sovereignty and a threat to American safety.
