Pam Bondi Announces the DOJ Is Suing Tim Walz's Minnesota

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Monday that the Department of Justice has filed suit against Minnesota, escalating a growing clash between the Trump administration and Democrat-led states over fairness in women’s sports.

The lawsuit targets policies under Democratic Gov. Tim Walz, accusing the state of refusing to comply with federal standards aimed at preserving girls’ athletic competition and privacy in locker rooms.

“Today @TheJusticeDept sued the state of Minnesota for allowing boys to play in girls’ sports and use girls’ locker rooms,” Bondi wrote on X.

In an official DOJ statement, Bondi underscored the administration’s position: “The Trump Administration does not tolerate flawed state policies that ignore biological reality and unfairly undermine girls on the playing field.”

Bondi confirmed coordination with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Education Secretary Linda McMahon as the case proceeds through the courts.

“This DOJ acknowledges biological reality and we refuse to let high school girls be subjected to this treatment,” she added. “It’s not only unfair — it’s deeply inappropriate and dangerous. Proud to partner with @SecKennedy and @EdSecMcMahon on this important litigation.”

Mounting Pressure on Minnesota Leadership

The lawsuit comes as Walz faces intensifying scrutiny on a separate front: a sweeping federal fraud investigation into alleged abuse of taxpayer-funded programs across Minnesota.

According to findings tied to a White House task force led by Vice President J.D. Vance, billions in public funds may have been siphoned through fraudulent schemes, including fake Somali daycare operations and Medicare abuse.

An executive order issued by Donald J. Trump, now serving his second term, highlighted Minnesota as a prime example of systemic waste and oversight failures.

“The staggering fraud and waste in Minnesota alone is a case in point. Federal prosecutors in the State estimate that Medicaid fraud in recent years could total in the billions,” the order stated.

The directive further noted that “Nearly 9 percent of the roughly $866 million spent on food stamps in Minnesota each year is estimated to be spent in error,” raising broader concerns about accountability in state-administered federal programs.

Congressional Republicans Turn Up the Heat

Walz and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison were recently called before Congress, where Republican lawmakers sharply questioned their handling of the alleged fraud.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer issued a stark warning during the hearing:

“Mr. Ellison, my concern is that you actively obstructed this investigation in exchange for campaign donations — a quid pro quo. If these concerns are proven to be true, you should be disbarred, and you should go to jail,” Emmer said.

Meanwhile, Rep. Jim Jordan confronted Walz over the controversial “Feeding Our Future” program, which saw funding skyrocket from $3 million to $200 million in just a few years.

“Why didn’t you just tell the truth about the ‘Feeding Our Future’ program?” Jordan pressed. “This program, in my understanding, received $3 million the first year, [and] within a couple years was getting $200 million of taxpayer money. Whistleblowers raised concerns, as the chairman said. Auditors raised concerns. Everybody raised concerns.”

Walz responded, “My understanding was the agency believed that the court had required them to make those payments.”

Jordan then cited the state judiciary’s own clarification that courts “never ordered the Department of Education to resume payments to FOF in April 2021, or at any other time.”

Walz dismissed the discrepancy as a “misinterpretation,” but Jordan fired back bluntly:

“Somebody’s lying!” Jordan concluded. “Somebody’s lying.”

The Ohio Republican went further, suggesting the governor may have ignored red flags out of concern for “political backlash” tied to Minnesota’s Somali community—an allegation that adds another layer of controversy to an already explosive investigation.
