Patel Warns China May Be Targeting U.S. Food Supply After Major Arrest

Two Chinese nationals have been slapped with a series of federal charges after allegedly smuggling a highly destructive agricultural fungus into the United States — an act that officials warn could represent a deliberate attempt to compromise America’s food supply.

According to federal prosecutors, Yunqing Jian, 33, and Zunyong Liu, 34, are accused of unlawfully bringing Fusarium graminearum into the country, a fungus known to devastate key crops such as corn, wheat, barley, and rice. This biological threat not only poses massive economic risks but has also raised red flags about possible agroterrorism orchestrated by foreign actors.

U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. announced the charges on Tuesday, which include conspiracy, smuggling, making false statements, and visa fraud. Prosecutors allege that the smuggled pathogen was concealed in a backpack — a bold move that could have jeopardized the heart of American agriculture.

“The alleged actions of these Chinese nationals — including a loyal member of the Chinese Communist Party — are of the gravest national security concerns,” said Gorgon. “These two aliens have been charged with smuggling a fungus that has been described as a ‘potential agroterrorism weapon’ into the heartland of America.”

Court documents indicate that the men planned to work with the fungus at a laboratory at the University of Michigan. The FBI confirmed that Yunqing Jian had previously received funding from the Chinese government to conduct research on the same pathogen while in China.

FBI Director Kash Patel did not mince words in his statement:

“I can confirm that the FBI arrested a Chinese national within the United States who allegedly smuggled a dangerous biological pathogen into the country,” Patel stated on X.

“… This fungus can cause a disease called ‘head blight,’ a disease of wheat, barley, maize, and rice, causing significant health issues in both humans and livestock. It is responsible for billions of dollars in economic losses worldwide each year,” he added.

This troubling development comes amid growing bipartisan concern that the Chinese Communist Party is escalating covert actions within the U.S., potentially targeting the nation’s critical infrastructure — including the agricultural sector.

While federal agents were investigating a biological threat to our food supply, another disturbing case unfolded in Boulder, Colorado, involving an illegal alien accused of terrorism on U.S. soil.

Mohamed Soliman, an Egyptian national unlawfully present in the country, was arrested for allegedly attempting a mass-casualty attack during a peaceful pro-Israel demonstration at Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall. Authorities say Soliman was armed with 14 Molotov cocktails and a makeshift flamethrower, which he used to set eight people on fire, including one victim now listed in critical condition.

According to the FBI, Soliman openly admitted that his goal was to “kill all Zionist people” and that he specifically targeted the rally to inflict maximum harm on those advocating for the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

As reported by Fox News’ Kayleigh McEnany on Outnumbered, Soliman’s confession and weapon cache point to a deeply ideological motive. Federal agents confirmed that the attacker fits the pattern of a “lone wolf” — a dangerous type of assailant that’s increasingly difficult to detect before violence occurs.

Shocking video footage captures the shirtless Soliman holding incendiary devices in both hands as he terrorized bystanders before being subdued by law enforcement.
