Pelosi Faces Renewed Criticism Over January 6 Remarks

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a pivotal figure in shaping the Democratic Party’s stance on the events of January 6, 2021, is now under fresh scrutiny as new allegations cast doubt on her actions and intentions.

Nationwide, critics are revisiting her role, accusing Pelosi of exploiting the Capitol breach for political gain. This backlash has been fueled by circulating video clips and social media discussions, including a contentious claim attributed to her daughter, Alexandra Pelosi, which suggests the “insurrection” may have been staged for political purposes.

Pelosi’s recent post commemorating the day, which emphasized the “courage of law enforcement” and her commitment to democracy, faced swift online backlash. Skeptics accused her of either orchestrating or mishandling the events leading up to and during January 6.

On X (formerly Twitter), Pelosi wrote:

“Four years ago today, our nation watched in horror as a terrorist mob stormed the Capitol grounds and desecrated our Temple of Democracy in a violent attempt to subvert the peaceful transfer of power. The January 6th insurrection shook our Republic to its core — and left behind physical scars and emotional trauma on members of our Congressional community and our Country that endure to this day.

We must never forget the extraordinary courage of law enforcement officers on January 6th who stood in the breach and stared down the insurrectionists to protect the Capitol, the Congress and the Constitution. We are forever grateful to these heroes whose valor ensured that democracy survived on that dark day — and we continue to pray for the fallen, the afflicted and their families.

The parable of January 6th reminds us that our precious democratic institutions are only as strong as the courage and commitment of those entrusted with their care. On January 6th, we gave proof through the night that our Flag was still there by returning to the Capitol to certify the election results and demonstrate to America and the world that our Democracy prevailed.”

She concluded by invoking President Lincoln, stating, “As we gather today under President Lincoln’s dome to uphold our oath and peacefully certify the will of the people, we all share a responsibility to preserve American democracy — which Lincoln called, ‘the last best hope of earth.’”

The reactions to her post were swift and pointed, with some users sharing a video initially obtained by the House Administration Committee on Oversight. The video, recorded by Alexandra Pelosi, shows Pelosi stating, “I take responsibility” for the security lapses at the Capitol on that day.

Additional responses on X:

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), Chair of the Oversight Committee, highlighted the footage and criticized the handling of evidence by the January 6 Committee, chaired by Rep. Benny Thompson (D-MS) and former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY). According to Loudermilk, the video was not made public, archived, or handed over to the Republican majority during the transition of Congress.

“As Nancy Pelosi was being evacuated from the Capitol on January 6, 2021, she admitted that, as Speaker of the House, she was responsible for the security failures and for not having the National Guard at the Capitol,” Loudermilk stated in June. “It’s time to tell the truth.”

He continued:

“However, after the dust settled from the breach of the Capitol, she spent 20 million taxpayer dollars for her January 6 Select Committee to create a narrative that shifted the blame on President Trump.”

Loudermilk further accused the committee of suppressing evidence that contradicted their narrative, including the video of Pelosi’s admission regarding the security failures.
