Police Reveal New Details Regarding Charlie Kirk Assassin

Utah authorities have revealed chilling new details in the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University earlier this month — including that the accused gunman returned to the scene of the crime to retrieve his rifle while police were locking down the campus.

Two law-enforcement sources told reporters that Tyler Robinson, 22, made contact with a police officer near the spot where investigators later recovered the alleged murder weapon — a Mauser .30-06 rifle wrapped in a towel — hidden in woods at the edge of the UVU campus.

Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason confirmed the revelation to Fox News: “We have been able to confirm very recently that he did return to that campus and did make contact with an officer. The contents of that interaction we’re not prepared to reveal right now. That’s part of the investigation and part of gathering more information.”

Mason said the encounter happened on the evening of September 10 — shortly after a sniper’s bullet struck Kirk in the neck while he was speaking at a Turning Point USA event in Orem, Utah.

According to Mason, the officer, positioned on the perimeter after a campus-wide lockdown, confronted Robinson near the exact location where investigators later recovered the rifle, apparently foiling his attempt to retrieve the weapon. Authorities have also traced Robinson’s movements to local businesses around the area. “We know he visited a restaurant eatery, or he made a purchase for food, just kind of a normal interaction,” Mason told Fox.

Prosecutors released excerpts of text messages they say Robinson exchanged with his roommate and romantic partner, Lance Twiggs, the night of the attack. In one message, Robinson allegedly directed Twiggs to “look under my keyboard.” Police say Twiggs discovered and photographed a note reading: “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it.” Twiggs has reportedly been cooperating with investigators.

Other texts show Robinson allegedly admitting his role: “I am, I’m sorry,” he replied after Twiggs asked if he was the shooter. Robinson also expressed frustration at being unable to reclaim his rifle: “There is a squad car parked right by it. I think they already swept that spot, but I don’t wanna chance it.”

He allegedly wrote that he regretted not grabbing the weapon sooner: “I’m wishing I had circled back and grabbed it as soon as I got to my vehicle… I’m worried what my old man would do if I didn’t bring back grandpas (sic) rifle.”

Authorities say Robinson eventually surrendered in his southern Utah hometown roughly 33 hours after the shooting, after his parents and a family friend persuaded him not to take his own life.

The murder of Charlie Kirk — a prominent conservative leader and President Trump ally — has sent shockwaves through the conservative movement. The suspect’s alleged texts and actions point to a premeditated assassination attempt, raising grave questions about political violence and the safety of public figures who challenge the Left’s agenda.
