Hasty began his career at KFYO in 2003, eventually rising to host its morning show before transitioning to the afternoon slot in 2021. Outside of politics, he was known for his love of baseball caps, premium cigars, and discovering new restaurants.
Texas leaders also paid tribute.
Speaker Dustin Burrows said he was “heartbroken” by the news. “Time and again, he offered me a seat at his microphone and the opportunity to speak directly to the people I serve,” Burrows wrote. “He believed in giving leaders a platform – and holding them accountable – and he did both with professionalism, respect, and a healthy dose of humor.”
Governor Greg Abbott praised Hasty’s impact on public discourse. “Every day, Chad showed up to the microphone with conviction, informing Texans on the critical policy and political fights happening in the Legislature and our state,” he said.
Senator Ted Cruz added, “Chad was one of the greatest voices in Texas, and his loss will be deeply felt throughout the state.”
Hasty is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and their young daughter, Ava.
Pennsylvania Senate Candidate Arrested Over Alleged Threats
In a separate development, federal authorities arrested Raymond Chandler, a Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate, over alleged violent threats directed at Donald J. Trump and members of Congress.
An FBI spokesperson confirmed that Chandler was taken into custody Friday morning in Pittsburgh, with assistance from the United States Secret Service.
According to court documents filed in federal court, Chandler allegedly left multiple voicemails containing explicit threats. In one April 18 message to an unnamed member of Congress, he reportedly described a scenario in which a mob would “pull you out of your house and they slit your throat and they slit your daughter’s throat and they slit everyone’s throat.”
Authorities say he justified the remarks by citing grievances over wealth inequality.
In a separate voicemail on April 29, Chandler allegedly escalated his rhetoric, stating: “I want you to put that firearm to the President’s head, and I want you to pull the trigger and I want you to kill him.” He also referred to President Trump as “a liar among all liars. He’s a great deceiver. He’s the antichrist.”
The threats prompted congressional staff to alert authorities as the messages became increasingly violent and targeted not only the president but lawmakers and immigration officials.
Just hours before his arrest, Chandler reportedly posted a campaign video announcing a 2028 Senate challenge against John Fetterman. His platform included progressive priorities such as higher taxes on billionaires, expanded government programs, increased regulation of technology companies, and abolishing ICE.
