Report: Harris Refuses To Invite Vance’s For Courtesy Visit to VP Residence

As Vice President Kamala Harris prepares to leave office, reports suggest she is continuing what some describe as contentious and petty behavior following her loss to President-elect Donald Trump.
According to a report by CBS News on Tuesday, Harris has yet to invite Vice President-elect JD Vance and his wife, Usha, to the Naval Observatory, the official residence of the vice president. This gesture has traditionally been part of the peaceful transfer of power. The outlet cited “multiple Democratic and Republican sources” for the report.
In November, Usha Vance reportedly reached out via intermediaries to the Harris staff to ask about childproofing the residence for their three young children: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel, all under the age of eight. Initially, a Harris appointee declined to respond. However, Navy aides responsible for managing the residence later engaged with the Vance family to discuss the home's layout, logistics, and potential needs.
“Usha Vance spoke with Emhoff for about 40 minutes last week, sources said,” the report noted, adding that arrangements are underway to accommodate the children. Harris sources also claimed she did not have the opportunity to visit the residence before taking office in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions and the fallout from the Capitol riot.
Advisers to former Vice President Mike Pence countered these claims, asserting that Pence extended a discreet invitation for Harris and Emhoff to visit during the Trump administration's final days. CBS noted that the invitation was kept low-profile due to “President Trump’s alleged reluctance to accommodate the incoming administration.”
Harris allies defended her decision not to invite the Vances, citing time constraints related to a canceled overseas trip and ongoing efforts to address California wildfires. However, the lack of an invitation has drawn criticism, especially given historical precedent: In 2016, then-Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, hosted the Pences at the residence shortly after the election.
Harris also faced backlash for a perceived snub over the weekend. The outgoing vice president attended former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, which brought together five current and former presidents—Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Donald Trump—as well as former vice presidents Al Gore and Mike Pence.
President Jimmy Carter loved our country. He lived his faith, served the people, and left the world better than he found it.

Harris posted a photo of the event on her social media accounts, showing the presidents and vice presidents with their hands over their hearts. However, Trump and his family were conspicuously absent from the image. In the foreground, former President Bush was partially obscured by Doug Emhoff, Harris’s husband, who stood beside her in the front pew.
The omission sparked swift backlash online.
“Kamala, you are a petty POS. You cropped out President Trump and his family. All because you were not able to steal another election from him,” wrote Derrick Evans, a former West Virginia House member and self-described Jan. 6 “political prisoner.” “You will always be known as the DEI pick who slept your way to the top of the illegitimate Biden regime. Signed, The American People.”
Another social media user commented, “Trying to erase history once again. Did you know Melania was there on the 1-year anniversary of her own mother’s funeral? Your moral character and that of those surrounding you in the picture is well shown.”
Others piled on, with one user labeling Harris the “worst VP in history.”
