Resurfaced Video Shows Tlaib Refusing To Condemn ‘Death to America’ Chants At Dearborn Rally

In the wake of the brutal ambush on two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C.—an attack carried out by an Afghan national who had overstayed his visa—an explosive video from last year has resurfaced showing Rep. Rashida Tlaib refusing to condemn protesters in her own district who chanted “Death To America.” The resurfaced clip has reignited outrage as yet another Afghan national was arrested this week on charges of making terroristic threats.

The exchange, first highlighted by Newsweek, shows Tlaib clashing with a Fox Business reporter after being asked a straightforward question: would she denounce the anti-American chants? Rather than answer, the Michigan Democrat snapped, “I don’t talk to Fox News,” accusing the network of pushing “racist tropes” and being “Islamophobic.”

The footage stems from an April 5, 2024 demonstration in Dearborn, Michigan. The event—held outside the Henry Ford Centennial Library on Michigan Avenue—marked the International Day of Al-Quds, an annual pro-Palestinian rally that takes place on the final Friday of Ramadan. According to The Detroit News, participants chanted “death to America” and “death to Israel” in Arabic as part of the protest.

Fox Business correspondent Hillary Vaughn confronted Tlaib on Capitol Hill, asking, “At a rally in your district people were chanting ‘death to America,’ do you condemn?” Tlaib again stonewalled: “I do not talk to Fox News.”

Vaughn pressed: would she condemn the chants or not? Tlaib doubled down. “I don’t talk to people that use racist tropes.”

Moments later, the congresswoman escalated, insisting, “Using racist tropes towards my community is what Fox News is about and I don’t talk to Fox News.”

When Vaughn attempted to clarify—“Is chanting death to America racist?”—Tlaib deflected once more: “I’m talking about your guys’ racist tropes. You guys know exactly what you do. I know you’re Islamophobic.”

Daily Caller reporter Nicole Silverio posted the clip to X, where it quickly surpassed 325,000 views and set off a firestorm of criticism.

On X, Sen. Rick Scott blasted Tlaib, saying she “refuses to condemn chants of ‘death to America.’” He added, “This blatant disrespect to our nation is disgusting from anyone – especially a sitting member of the United States Congress.”

Arsen Ostrovsky, an attorney who leads the International Legal Forum, noted that Tlaib was asked “at least 6 times” to condemn the chants and “refuses to answer.”

Even Dearborn’s Democrat mayor, Abdullah Hammoud, distanced himself from the rally, writing on X: “The hateful rhetoric heard on Friday does not reflect the opinion of the members of this community.” He continued, “We reject all inflammatory and violent statements made at the gathering. The Dearborn community stands for peace and justice for all people. We are proud to call this city and this country home.”

The resurfaced video arrived just as President Donald Trump delivered a somber update on the National Guardsmen ambushed near the White House on Thanksgiving Eve. Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, an Afghan national who entered the United States under the Biden administration, shot 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom and 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe. Beckstrom died Friday from her wounds.

Lakanwal—who previously worked with U.S. Special Forces in Afghanistan—arrived in 2021 through the Biden-era Operation Allies Welcome humanitarian parole program following the administration’s deadly and disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.

He has since been charged, with additional charges expected after Beckstrom’s death.

President Trump placed the blame squarely on former President Joe Biden’s immigration failures. When a reporter questioned his comments, the president did not hold back.

“Because they let him! Are you stupid? Are you a stupid person? Because they came in on a plane, along with thousands of other people that shouldn’t be here,” President Trump said.

With rising threats, resettlement failures, and a member of Congress refusing to condemn open chants of “Death To America,” the political divide over national security and immigration under Biden-era policies continues to sharpen dramatically.
