Rubio Says Iran To Face Major Sanctions If No Nuke Deal By End Of August
President Donald J. Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are stepping up pressure on Iran, working in lockstep with key European allies to force Tehran’s hand on its nuclear program — or face the full return of United Nations sanctions under the “snapback” provision of the 2015 Iran deal.
According to a Monday report from Axios, Rubio and the foreign ministers of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have informally set the end of August as the deadline for Iran to cooperate. If talks stall beyond that point, the three European powers reportedly plan to trigger snapback, restoring all sanctions lifted by the original Obama-era nuclear agreement.
This move would be a powerful geopolitical maneuver — one that requires only 30 days to take effect, and is seen as a way to box in Tehran before Russia assumes the presidency of the UN Security Council in October.

View Plans“The call between Rubio and his European counterparts was aimed at coordinating positions on ‘snapback’ and the path forward on nuclear diplomacy with Iran,” Axios reported.
Sources also told Axios that the Europeans will soon warn Iran: cooperate now or face sanctions you can’t stop. The snapback, originally built into the flawed Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), bypasses Russia and China’s ability to veto the move.
Iran, unsurprisingly, has threatened to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) if sanctions are reinstated, claiming there’s no legal ground for snapback — even though the mechanism was included in the original agreement.
President Trump, who withdrew the U.S. from the JCPOA during his first term, has remained committed to maximum pressure on the Iranian regime. Following the end of hostilities between Israel and Iran earlier this year, Trump offered a chance for talks — but made it clear he would not tolerate deception or delay.
During a recent visit to the White House, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged President Trump and Secretary Rubio not to block snapback efforts. Netanyahu also asked presidential envoy Steve Witkoff to deliver a final message to Tehran: your window is closing.
“We felt that Trump and his team agreed with us,” an Israeli official told Axios.
Last month, President Trump confirmed that Israeli intelligence teams entered Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility after a U.S.-led airstrike and found it “totally obliterated.”
“They have guys who go in after the strike, and they said it was total obliteration,” Trump said during a NATO summit in The Hague, as reported by FirstPost.
The President also warned Iran that further action will be taken if they attempt to restart uranium enrichment. He likened the devastation at Fordow and Natanz to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings — emphasizing that the strike brought the conflict to a standstill.
“They had no time to relocate any materials,” Trump noted, reinforcing the effectiveness of the rapid and precise U.S.-Israel operation.
Despite spin from outlets like CNN and The New York Times, top intelligence officials have confirmed the massive damage to Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe stated plainly that “several key nuclear facilities were destroyed,” adding that Iran’s program would take years to recover.
Earlier, a Defense Intelligence Agency report suggested only a temporary delay, but classified the assessment as “low confidence.” That report was leaked — and now, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says the Pentagon and FBI are closing in on the leaker, with criminal charges expected.

View Plans“This was not just a setback,” one senior U.S. defense official said. “It was a knockout punch.”
Iran has a final chance to come clean. If not, the full weight of international sanctions is coming — and this time, no one’s getting a deal behind closed doors.
