Rubio Says US Striking Iran To Eliminate Nuclear Threat Permanently
Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a clear and defiant message on Tuesday: the era of Iranian nuclear blackmail is over. Speaking on the heels of the massive joint U.S.-Israeli military campaign known as "Operation Epic Fury," Rubio confirmed that the strikes were specifically engineered to permanently dismantle Tehran’s path to a nuclear weapon.
“This was the final, best chance to wipe out Iran’s threat for good — so they can never have a nuclear weapon,” Rubio stated in a video shared on X. While acknowledging that sovereign nations may pursue civilian nuclear energy, the Secretary accused the Ayatollah’s regime of using that pretext to mask a sinister weapons program hidden deep within mountain fortresses.
“They build their reactors and their facilities deep in mountains away from the public glare,” Rubio said. “The same equipment that they could use to enrich material for energy they could use to quickly enrich it to weapons-grade.”
Defanging the "Next North Korea"
Appearing on Hannity, Rubio explained that the Trump administration refused to sit idly by while Iran built a "missile belt" designed to shield its nuclear ambitions. He warned that Tehran was actively attempting to replicate the North Korean model of nuclear untouchability—a scenario the President deemed an "intolerable risk" to the American people.
“That’s what they were aiming to do,” Rubio told host Sean Hannity. “They were aiming to become the next North Korea.”
The Secretary noted that the U.S. remains open to direct diplomacy, but only on the condition that it is not used as a stalling tactic. “What President Trump is not going to allow is fake negotiations to be used as a delay tactic,” he warned. According to Rubio, the strategy of "maximum pressure" combined with precise military action has left the regime in its most vulnerable state in a quarter-century. “This is the weakest Iran has ever been,” he declared.

Reassessing a "One-Way" Alliance
In a candid interview with Al Jazeera, Secretary Rubio signaled a potential tectonic shift in U.S. foreign policy, specifically regarding the NATO alliance. He expressed sharp frustration with European "allies" like Spain, which reportedly denied the U.S. access to its airspace and bases during the heat of the operation.
SECRETARY RUBIO: I hear these news reports that we don’t know what the objectives are, and it’s very frustrating.

“If that’s the arrangement, that’s a hard one to stay engaged in and say this is good for the United States,” Rubio said. “All of it’s going to have to be re-examined.”
The administration’s frustration also extended to the United Kingdom’s initial hesitation to allow strikes from the joint base at Diego Garcia, though British officials eventually relented. President Trump echoed these sentiments on Truth Social, delivering a blunt warning to European nations that rely on the U.S. to secure the Strait of Hormuz while offering no support in return.
“You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself,” the President wrote. “The U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore.”
As the smoke clears from "Operation Epic Fury," the Trump administration has made it clear that the global security landscape has changed. The United States will no longer bear the burden of defending allies who refuse to stand with America against its greatest threats.
