Russia Reportedly Assisting Iran as U.S.-Led Operation Against Regime Intensifies

The growing confrontation between the United States and Iran shows no signs of winding down anytime soon.

Only days after President Donald J. Trump indicated that “Operation Epic Fury”, a joint U.S.-Israeli campaign targeting Iran’s military leadership and infrastructure, could continue for at least another month, troubling new intelligence reports suggest outside powers may be attempting to intervene behind the scenes.

According to a report from The Washington Post, Russia appears to be quietly assisting Tehran during the conflict.

Citing three anonymous officials familiar with the matter, the outlet reported that Moscow has allegedly been supplying Iran with intelligence intended to help Iranian forces track U.S. military assets across the Middle East.

Specifically, the report claims that Russia has passed along the locations of American ships and aircraft operating in the region since the conflict escalated.

“The outlet reported that since ‘the war began Saturday, Russia has passed Iran the locations of U.S. military assets, including warships and aircraft.’”

One source described the effort as significant in scale.

“It does seem like it’s a pretty comprehensive effort,” one of the sources told The Washington Post.

NBC News published a similar report, also citing sources who suggested that Russia had been providing intelligence support to Tehran.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi acknowledged during an interview with NBC News that both Russia and China have been offering support to Iran, although he declined to clarify the specifics.

“They are supporting us politically and otherwise,” Araghchi said.

NBC News noted that the intelligence sharing could potentially help Iran detect American military systems in the region.

However, the outlet also emphasized that there is no evidence Russia is directly coordinating Iranian missile or drone attacks.

The intelligence assistance from Russia could help Iran locate American warships, radar or other communication systems, but there is no indication Moscow is helping direct Iranian missile or drone strikes.

When contacted for comment by The Washington Post, the Kremlin declined to confirm the allegations. Russian officials instead described the U.S.-led campaign as an “unprovoked act of armed aggression.”

As speculation over Russian involvement intensified, attention quickly turned to the White House for a response.

Administration officials made clear that the ongoing military operation is proceeding successfully and that Iranian forces are suffering major losses.

“The Iranian regime is being absolutely crushed,” White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in a statement responding to these reports.

She added, “Their ballistic missile retaliation is decreasing every day, their navy is being wiped out, their production capacity is being demolished, and proxies are hardly putting up a fight.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the issue directly during an interview on Fox News, dismissing concerns that Russian intelligence sharing would alter the outcome of the conflict.

“Whether or not this happened, frankly, it does not really matter,” Leavitt told Fox News with respect to the Russian intelligence assistance, “because President Trump and the United States military are absolutely decimating the rogue Iranian terrorist regime.”

She continued by highlighting the rapid progress of Operation Epic Fury.

“We are now on day six of Operation Epic Fury. The United States military has impressingly established dominance and air superiority over the skies of Iran. We have sunk and destroyed more than 30 of their navy ships. And, of course, the goals of this operation have been laid out and very clear: completely annihilate Iran’s navy which, again, we are well on our way to doing.

“Their navy has now been deemed combat ineffective.”

If the White House’s assessment holds true, the operation appears to be rapidly degrading Tehran’s ability to project power at sea and across the region.

Still, the possibility of indirect assistance from geopolitical rivals like Russia could further complicate the already volatile situation in the Middle East as President Trump continues to push forward with a strategy aimed at dismantling Iran’s military capabilities and neutralizing the regime’s ability to threaten American interests and allies.
