Schumer Deflects, Blames President Trump After Deadly ICE Facility Attack in Dallas

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer wasted no time pointing the finger at President Donald Trump following a deadly attack on an ICE detention facility in Dallas, Texas, that left multiple detainees dead or injured.

The assailant, reportedly motivated by anti-ICE extremism, opened fire at the facility on Wednesday morning before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Federal officials confirmed that at least five shell casings were recovered, including one inscribed with “ANTI-ICE” in blue ink. Authorities labeled the incident “targeted violence.”

Schumer’s Partisan Response

During an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Schumer immediately used the tragedy as an opportunity to attack the president.

“It has to come from the top, and like on so many other things, Donald Trump is deficient in this, totally deficient,” Schumer said.

He further criticized the president’s response to the recent assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, accusing him of pointing blame at the left “instead of just bringing Americans together to mourn.”

“Donald Trump’s busy pointing fingers before he even had evidence,” Schumer claimed. “That doesn’t help.”

Despite admitting he did not yet know key details about the Dallas attack—including what type of firearm was used—Schumer quickly called for sweeping new gun control measures.

“We got something done a few years ago, but it’s just rampant, and we have to do more,” he said. “I’m the author of the Brady Law, the assault weapons ban. It’s become almost every day one of these things happen, and we can’t just sit there and do nothing.”

Federal Officials: Violence Fueled by Anti-ICE Rhetoric

In sharp contrast to Schumer’s attempt to pin blame on the president, federal officials highlighted the clear anti-ICE motivation behind the shooting.

“This vile attack was motivated by hatred for ICE. This shooting must serve as a wake-up call to the far-left that their rhetoric about ICE has consequences,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem declared.

An ICE spokesperson confirmed that three people were shot, but no ICE officers were injured. Dallas police said two individuals—including the shooter—were confirmed dead.

Joe Rothrock, the FBI’s Special Agent in Charge of Dallas, described the incident as “targeted violence.” FBI Director Kash Patel later released a photo of the shell casings, one of which bore the anti-ICE inscription.

Secretary Noem shared on X:
“There was a shooting this morning at the Dallas ICE Detention Facility. Details are still emerging but we can confirm there were multiple injuries and fatalities. The shooter is deceased by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

She added: “While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families.”

Calls for Unity—But Only Against the Right?

While Schumer called the violence “terrible” and urged all sides to condemn it, his first instinct was to politicize the tragedy by attacking President Trump instead of addressing the escalating rhetoric from the left against law enforcement agencies like ICE.

Vice President JD Vance made it clear where the blame belongs:
“The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families.”
