Southern Baptists Take Bold Stand to Defend Biblical Marriage and Traditional Values
In a striking move that reasserts biblical truth and moral clarity, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) — the largest Protestant denomination in the United States — overwhelmingly voted to oppose the legal recognition of so-called same-sex marriage during its annual meeting in Dallas this week.
More than 10,000 delegates from churches across the country convened at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, where they decisively backed a resolution calling for the repeal of Obergefell v. Hodges, the deeply controversial 2015 Supreme Court ruling that fabricated a constitutional right to same-sex marriage. The vote marks the first time the denomination has formally called for the overturning of this decision.
The resolution minced no words, stating: “Legal rulings like Obergefell v. Hodges and policies that deny the biological reality of male and female are legal fictions, undermine the truth of God’s design, and lead to social confusion and injustice.” It further declared support “for laws that affirm marriage between one man and one woman.”

Andrew Walker, who chairs the Resolutions Committee, acknowledged the uphill battle ahead, but made clear that conviction, not convenience, drives this movement.
“There is very little desire, even on the conservative side, I think, to go to bat for marriage in this particular culture,” Walker said at a press conference Tuesday. “And I want to stress to the press — while we are making a policy and legal statement, I’m clear-eyed about the difficulties and the headwinds in this resolution.”

Despite cultural hostility and media opposition, Walker declared the SBC’s commitment to truth unwavering: “Southern Baptists are not going anywhere on this issue.”
But the resolution did not stop with marriage. The SBC also demanded the defunding of Planned Parenthood, rejected the radical agenda of transgender ideology, and forcefully backed parental rights in education and healthcare. These stances reflect a broader conservative resurgence rooted in scriptural authority and natural law.
Delegates voted on a total of eight resolutions. In addition to opposing same-sex marriage and transgenderism, they adopted resolutions targeting pornography, chemical abortion pills, and sports betting. Another resolution called for bolstering international religious liberty — a hallmark of Christian advocacy across centuries.
On the matter of gambling, the denomination offered a strong moral exhortation: “We encourage our Southern Baptist Convention leaders, entities, and pastors to continue to educate our churches on the deceptive sin of gambling through biblical instruction and practical resources while providing compassionate support and counseling to those struggling with gambling addiction and its consequences.”
In an age of moral confusion and cultural decay, the SBC’s clear and courageous stand serves as a beacon of truth. While elites in Washington and Hollywood mock faith and undermine the family, millions of faithful Christians are standing their ground.
