Team Trump Sets Sights On First GOP Incumbent to Primary

President Donald J. Trump is taking aim at a Republican holdout who has repeatedly defied the America First agenda—Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie.

In what marks the first organized effort by Trump’s political machine to unseat a sitting GOP member of Congress, a new super PAC called Kentucky MAGA has been launched to defeat Massie in the 2026 Republican primary.

The move comes after Massie once again aligned with Democrats—this time to undermine Trump’s authority to strike Iranian nuclear targets without congressional approval. Massie also voted against President Trump’s latest legislative push, the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which includes sweeping tax and spending cuts that would turbocharge the U.S. economy.

“Massie is weak, ineffective, and votes ‘NO’ on virtually everything put before him (Rand Paul, Jr.), no matter how good something may be,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social. “MAGA should drop this pathetic LOSER, Tom Massie, like the plague!”

Trump didn’t stop there. He announced plans to personally campaign in Massie’s district and vowed to throw the full weight of the MAGA movement behind a challenger.

“The good news is that we will have a wonderful American Patriot running against him in the Republican Primary,” Trump declared.

The new PAC will be spearheaded by Chris LaCivita, a senior advisor to Trump’s 2024 campaign, and veteran GOP pollster Tony Fabrizio—a signal that this isn’t just another warning shot. It’s a political blitz.

“If you want to be part of an effort to defeat Massie you will go through us. And the Trump political operation will run the campaign,” LaCivita told reporters Monday, adding that the group is prepared to spend “whatever it takes.”

According to The Associated Press, planning began weeks ago and includes meetings with prospective candidates. The goal: unite behind one strong MAGA-aligned contender to avoid diluting support through a crowded field, a mistake that’s plagued past primary efforts.

Massie’s track record makes him an easy target.

  • He tried to block President Trump’s emergency COVID relief package in 2020.
  • He backed Ron DeSantis in the 2024 GOP primaries.
  • He’s repeatedly undermined Trump's foreign policy decisions.
  • And most recently, he joined Democrats in pushing a resolution to restrict Trump’s commander-in-chief powers in dealing with Iran.

Massie responded to Trump’s broadside with sarcasm, posting on X:

“Trump has declared so much War on me today it should require an Act of Congress.”

But his attempts at levity failed to mask what’s clearly a serious threat to his political future.

“He knows me well enough to know he’s not changing my mind with these threats,” Massie told the AP. “I suspect the President isn’t doing this out of spite for me, but instead to intimidate my colleagues into rubber stamping his actions.”

Exactly.

And that’s the point.

Trump’s strike on Massie sends a loud and unmistakable message to any Republican foolish enough to stand in the way of the MAGA agenda: Get on board, or get out.

So far, one challenger—Niki Lee Ethington, a Kentucky nurse—has declared her candidacy, and more may follow. But unlike previous cycles, this time, Trump’s team is determined to control the process, fund the campaign, and win decisively.

It’s a bold new chapter in Trump’s second term—and a warning to all Beltway Republicans: America First isn’t optional anymore.
