Former Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax and his wife, Dr. Cerina Fairfax, were found dead in their Annandale home in what law enforcement officials are describing as a domestic murder-suicide.

The Fairfax County Police Department responded to a call shortly after midnight on Thursday. According to reports, one of the couple’s two children placed the 911 call after a domestic disturbance erupted. Upon arrival, officers discovered a scene of total devastation.

"Inside the home, police discovered Fairfax, 47, and his wife, Cerina Fairfax, both dead," The Washington Post reported.

Officials told WJLA-TV that Justin Fairfax shot his wife in the basement of the residence before moving to an upstairs bedroom and turning the weapon on himself.
