Trump Claimed in G7 Call That Iran Is ‘About To Surrender’

President Donald J. Trump reportedly told fellow world leaders this week that Iran is nearing collapse under sustained military pressure, declaring during a private meeting of the Group of Seven that the regime was “about to surrender.”

According to multiple officials from G7 nations who spoke to Axios, Trump made the remark during a virtual call Wednesday while discussing the results of ongoing U.S. military operations against Iran.

During the conversation, Trump praised the success of what his administration has dubbed Operation Epic Fury and framed the strikes as a decisive blow against a major global threat.

“I got rid of a cancer that was threatening us all,” Trump reportedly told the leaders.

Leadership Chaos Inside Iran

Despite projecting confidence in the operation’s progress, Trump also acknowledged that the situation inside Iran appears deeply uncertain following a wave of strikes targeting key regime figures and military infrastructure.

“Nobody knows who is the leader, so there is no one that can announce surrender,” Trump told allies, according to one official briefed on the call.

The confusion comes amid reports of turmoil within Iran’s ruling structure after longtime supreme leader Ali Khamenei was reportedly killed in a February 28 strike.

His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, was subsequently named as his successor.

However, multiple reports citing sources inside Iran suggest Mojtaba Khamenei may be severely injured following the attack.

Reports Claim New Leader Is Gravely Wounded

According to sources who spoke with The Telegraph, Mojtaba Khamenei is currently hospitalized at Sina University Hospital and may be in a coma following injuries sustained during an airstrike.

A source in Tehran reportedly said the cleric is being treated in intensive care under heavy security, with parts of the hospital sealed off.

“He is in intensive care,” the source said.

Another source communicating through an Iranian dissident in London described catastrophic injuries.

“One or two of his legs have been cut off. His liver or stomach has also ruptured. He is apparently in a coma as well.”

That report claims he is being treated by Mohammad Reza Zafarghandi, who is described as one of the country’s most experienced trauma surgeons.

Trump himself has publicly suggested the new Iranian leader is “damaged.”

Iranian officials have confirmed Mojtaba Khamenei was injured but have released few details, fueling speculation about the regime’s stability.

An Iranian official told The Telegraph, “No one knows anything about Mojtaba, whether he is alive or dead or how badly injured.”

Global Concerns Over Economic Fallout

While Trump emphasized military progress, several world leaders on the call reportedly raised concerns about the growing economic consequences of the conflict.

In particular, leaders warned about threats to the Strait of Hormuz — a narrow but vital corridor through which a significant share of the world’s oil supply passes.

Oil prices have surged amid fears that Iran could attempt to disrupt commercial traffic through the waterway.

Several G7 leaders urged Trump to move quickly to stabilize shipping lanes and prevent further economic shock.

According to an official familiar with the discussion, Trump suggested conditions in the strait were improving and indicated commercial vessels should resume operations.

Escalation Continues in the Region

Despite those assurances, tensions remain high across the region.

That same night, at least two oil tankers were reportedly set ablaze off the coast of Iraq, highlighting the volatile security environment surrounding the conflict.

Officials told Axios that Trump was “ambiguous and noncommittal” about how long the war might continue but stressed that the mission is not yet complete.

“we need to finish the job,” the president reportedly said.

Publicly, Trump has continued to emphasize the strength of U.S. military operations.

Speaking to reporters, he said American forces had recently carried out what he described as “one of the most powerful bombing raids in the history of the Middle East,” targeting Iranian energy infrastructure on Kharg Island.

Trump also warned that any attempt by Iran to interfere with maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz would trigger devastating retaliation.

If Iran disrupts the “free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said, the United States would “wipe out” oil facilities on Kharg Island.

With leadership turmoil in Tehran, continued military strikes, and rising fears about global energy markets, the conflict appears poised to remain a defining geopolitical flashpoint in the weeks ahead.
