Trump Considers Turning State Fair Concert Into Patriotic Rally After Performers Back Out

President Donald Trump is weighing whether to turn a major Washington, D.C., celebration into a large-scale patriotic rally after several performers withdrew from a planned concert tied to America’s 250th anniversary.

The controversy centers on the Great American State Fair concert, scheduled for June 25 on the National Mall. The event had been promoted as part of the broader lead-up to the nation’s semiquincentennial, but its future became uncertain after multiple musical acts backed out.

One of the most notable departures came from country music star Martina McBride, who said she believed she had agreed to take part in a nonpartisan event honoring all 50 states.

“I would like to talk to you and clear the air,” McBride wrote. “I will not be performing at the Great American State Fair on June 25th. I was presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event, but that turned out to be misleading.”

McBride said she wanted to address her decision directly with fans. She added that she has “been blessed with the opportunity to be a voice for those who have felt like they didn’t have one,” while acknowledging that some supporters may be disappointed by her withdrawal.

The cancellations quickly fueled questions about whether the highly promoted event would move forward as planned. But President Trump responded in classic fashion, suggesting that the answer may not be to scramble for replacement performers, but to give Americans something bigger.

In a Saturday post on Truth Social, Trump floated the idea of replacing the concert with an “AMERICA IS BACK Rally!”

“I understand Artists are getting ‘the yips’ having to do with their performance on Wednesday,” Trump wrote.

The president then suggested that the event could feature what he described as the biggest draw available.

“I am thinking about bringing the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World, the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime, and he does so without a guitar, the man who loves our Country more than anyone else, and the man who some say is the Greatest President in History (THE GOAT!), DONALD J. TRUMP, to take the place of these highly paid, Third Rate ‘Artists,’ and give a major speech, rallying the Country forward like I have done ever since being President!” Trump wrote.

The president’s message turned what could have been a public relations setback into another reminder of his unmatched ability to command attention and mobilize supporters.

Trump also used the moment to contrast the current state of the country under his leadership with what he described as the national decline that preceded his return to the White House.

“Two years ago, the United States was DEAD. Now we have the ‘HOTTEST’ Country anywhere in the World,” he wrote.

For Trump, the issue was not merely about entertainment. It was about whether a national celebration should be defined by reluctant performers or by Americans who are proud to celebrate the country’s founding, its comeback, and its future.

“I don’t want so-called ‘Artists’ that get paid far too much money, who aren’t happy,” Trump wrote. “I only want to be surrounded by Happy People, Smart People, Successful People, and People that know how to WIN.”

According to Trump, the idea is already being reviewed. He described his Truth Social post as official direction for White House staff to examine whether the concert can be converted into a rally while keeping the original schedule and venue intact.

“Same time, same location,” Trump wrote.

The president ended his message with a direct appeal to patriotic Americans who want to take part in a celebration centered on national pride rather than celebrity drama.

“Only Great Patriots are invited,” Trump wrote. “It will be a Wild and Beautiful Celebration of America!”

As of Saturday, organizers had not announced whether the June 25 event would continue as originally scheduled or be transformed into the rally Trump proposed.

Either way, the controversy has already shifted the focus away from the performers who walked away and toward the possibility that President Trump himself could become the main event.
