Trump Issues Blistering Response to Woke 'So-Called Bishop': 'Nasty in Tone and Not Compelling'

After being criticized by Episcopal Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde during what was expected to be a religious service on Tuesday, President Donald Trump responded strongly.
“The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater,” Trump posted Wednesday on Truth Social.
“She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way. She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart,” Trump wrote.
Trump accused Budde of failing to verify facts before issuing her critique.
“She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people. Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions. It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA,” he wrote.
“Apart from her inappropriate statements, the service was a very boring and uninspiring one. She is not very good at her job! She and her church owe the public an apology!” he wrote.
Budde had used the traditional National Cathedral prayer service as a platform to deliver a politically charged address directed at Trump.
“In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” Budde said.
“There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives,” she continued.

“And the people, the people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meat-packing plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals, they, they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation,” Budde stated. “But the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors. They are faithful members of our churches …”
“I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away, and that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands, to find compassion and welcome here,” she added.

Trump’s demand for an apology appeared unlikely to be met. Meanwhile, Sean Rowe, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, reiterated the church’s support for undocumented immigrants on the same day.
“To our siblings who are at risk of deportation or of being separated from those you love, know that your story is our story, and your dignity is inseparable from our own. We stand with you, and we will face these challenges together,” Rowe wrote.

Republican Rep. Mike Collins of Georgia added his voice to the debate, suggesting that Budde should share the experiences of the immigrants she defends.
“The person giving this sermon should be added to the deportation list,” he posted on X.
