Trump Issues Stunning Announcement About ‘the Left’ After Kirk Shooting

President Donald J. Trump said over the weekend that left-wing organizations and individuals are “already under major investigation” in the wake of the shocking assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Speaking to reporters in New Jersey before departing for his Bedminster golf resort, the president told the press, “You know, they’re already under major investigation. … A lot of the people that you would traditionally say, ‘they’re on the left.’” When pressed by a reporter — “They’re already under investigation?” — Trump replied, “Already under investigation.”

Fox News Digital reported a source familiar with the investigation saying the FBI is examining left-leaning groups in Utah for possible ties to the alleged shooter. According to the outlet, investigators are trying to determine whether any organizations knew of the suspect’s plans or in any way helped him. Axios first reported that law enforcement was widening its probe to include organized leftist networks.

Those concerns have translated into congressional action. On Sept. 11 — the day after Kirk was shot while speaking on his “American Comeback Tour” — Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) sent House Speaker Mike Johnson a letter urging the formation of a select committee to investigate what he called organized left-wing violence. The letter, co-signed by 22 other House Republicans, would give lawmakers subpoena power to follow money, donors, NGOs, media actors, and public officials the critics say help enable a coordinated campaign of intimidation.

“We must take every step to follow the money and uncover the force behind the NGOs, donors, media, public officials, and all entities driving this coordinated attack,” Roy wrote, tying the Kirk assassination to a broader pattern of politically motivated violence — including the 2024 assassination attempt on President Trump and the 2017 congressional baseball shooting.

If created, the committee would investigate groups such as Antifa and financiers like George Soros, names long targeted by conservative scrutiny for allegedly funding disruptive, anti-American activism. “Political violence of any kind is unacceptable, no matter who commits it,” said Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.). “But let’s not pretend this is an even playing field. In recent years, we’ve seen organized and well-funded efforts from the radical left to intimidate, disrupt, silence, and even justify violence against Americans they don’t agree with.”

The White House has vowed an aggressive response. Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller told Fox News host Sean Hannity the administration will work to “dismantle” left-wing domestic terrorism networks that, in the White House’s view, have been radicalizing Americans through a decade of hatred and eliminationist rhetoric. Miller charged that Democrats, pundits, and allied educators have waged a sustained campaign of dehumanizing language that the administration believes has fed violent acts.

Miller’s remarks were explicit and pointed:

“The Democrat Party, its pundits, its allies, the educators, for 10 years have waged a campaign of eliminationist rhetoric against President Trump, against Republicans, against MAGA, against Trump officials. It has been willful and deliberate, Sean. The rhetoric that you played, the messages that you played in that clip are the same exact rhetoric and messages that are used by the assassins, that are used by the two assassins who tried to kill Donald Trump, that are used by the assassin who claimed the life of my friend, an American hero, Charlie Kirk. This is willful and deliberate radicalization.
“They know what they’re doing. Our universities, in many cases, have become incubators for extremism. They’ve become the equivalent of madrasas for jihadism. There is a domestic terrorism movement in this country.
“The power of law enforcement under President Trump’s leadership will be used to find you, will be used to take away your money, take away your power, and if you’ve broken the law, to take away your freedom.”

Across the Hill, Republicans say the time has come for a full accounting of the networks, funding, and messaging that — they argue — have normalized violence against conservatives and conservative institutions. For the Trump White House and allied lawmakers, the Kirk assassination is not an isolated tragedy but evidence of a coordinated left-wing ecosystem that must be exposed and dismantled.
