Trump Issues Ultimatum To Omar After Key Evidence Found

President Donald Trump is demanding Rep. Ilhan Omar resign after a Justice Department court filing referred to the Minnesota Democrat as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.”

Trump pointed to the wording as a reason to question Omar’s identity, but the filing does not explain why prosecutors used the additional name. It also does not establish that Omar used a false identity or committed a crime.

At a campaign rally in Sioux City, Iowa, on Thursday, Trump told supporters, “It’s not looking good because she used a fake name to be sworn in,” and called for her resignation. He repeated the demand on Truth Social and again Friday, framing the name in the filing as evidence of fraud. No court has made such a finding.

The controversy began with a Justice Department motion filed Wednesday in connection with requests to unseal materials related to the search of Omar’s Washington residence. Two people familiar with the investigation, including a law-enforcement source, told Fox News Digital that Ilhan Nur Said Elmi was Omar’s birth name.

Omar’s office rejected that account, saying, “This is completely false. Ilhan Omar is her real name.” When asked about it Friday, Omar also told Fox News Digital, “Ilhan Abdullahi Omar, you know it,” and added, “It’s Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.”

The surname Elmi has drawn attention because Omar legally married Ahmed Nur Said Elmi in 2009. They later separated, and their marriage was legally dissolved in 2017. Critics have alleged for years that Elmi was Omar’s brother and that the marriage was connected to immigration benefits. Omar has denied the claim, which has not been established in court.

The issue resurfaced in an interview with MS NOW’s Chris Hayes, who asked whether Omar had any familial relationship with her former husband after she rejected the allegation that she had married her brother.

“Not to my knowledge,” Omar responded. Her spokesperson later said the remark was sarcastic and reiterated that Omar had “repeatedly and unequivocally” denied being related to Elmi.

The name dispute is unfolding amid a federal investigation into whether Omar or her late father made false statements on immigration paperwork, according to reporting by Fox News Digital. Agents searched Omar’s Washington residence earlier this month and seized her phone and passport. Fox News also reported that her sister, Sahra Noor, voluntarily spoke with investigators.

Omar has accused the Trump administration of using federal law enforcement to target her politically. The investigation has not resulted in publicly announced charges, and the court filing’s use of another name does not itself prove identity fraud.

The dispute now centers on what investigators can substantiate—and whether the name in the filing reflects evidence of a false identity or another aspect of the ongoing inquiry. Trump has made his demand clear; the legal questions remain unresolved.
