Trump Jabs Rosie O'Donnell Again, Suggests Stripping Her U.S. Citizenship

President Donald Trump has once again locked horns with longtime nemesis Rosie O'Donnell, posting a fiery message on Truth Social Saturday suggesting she should lose her American citizenship.

“Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,” the President wrote. “She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

While the message appears to carry Trump's signature blend of sarcasm and political theater, corporate media outlets like CNN predictably took the bait. The network ran a story framing the post as a constitutional crisis, calling in legal analysts to wring their hands over the hypothetical.

Steve Vladeck, a CNN contributor and Georgetown Law professor, declared the post “patently unconstitutional,” adding, “Congress has provided for only a handful of circumstances in which the executive branch is empowered to pursue such a move, and the Supreme Court has recognized meaningful constitutional limits and an entitlement to meaningful judicial review even in those cases.”

CNN also contacted the White House for clarification on what prompted the post, though the timing strongly suggests it was a reaction to O’Donnell’s latest anti-Trump TikTok rant. In that video, O’Donnell blamed the Trump administration for Texas flood fatalities, claiming he had “gutted all of the early warning systems and the weathering forecast abilities of the government,” a claim that ignores President Trump’s aggressive push to modernize infrastructure and disaster response coordination.

O’Donnell, who relocated to Ireland just before Trump’s 2025 inauguration, told CNN earlier this year that his second term cemented her decision to leave. “I knew after reading Project 2025 that if Trump got in, it was time for me and my nonbinary child to leave the country,” she said. “I have no regrets. Not a day has gone by that I thought it was the wrong decision. I was welcomed with open arms.”

She didn’t hold back in her reply to Trump's recent comments. “you want to revoke my citizenship? go ahead and try, king joffrey with a tangerine spray tan. i’m not yours to silence. i never was,” O’Donnell posted on Instagram.

The feud between the President and the left-wing comedian spans nearly two decades. It began in 2006 when O’Donnell, then co-hosting The View, labeled Trump a “snake oil salesman on Little House On The Prairie” and falsely claimed he had declared bankruptcy. Trump fired back, branding her “a real loser,” “crude, rude, obnoxious, and dumb,” and “a pig.”

Even during formal meetings, Trump hasn’t hesitated to needle O'Donnell. During a St. Patrick’s Day meeting in March with Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Trump took a playful jab after a reporter asked why Ireland would allow O’Donnell to move there.

“Ireland is known for very happy, fun-loving people,” the reporter said. “Why in the world would you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland? I think she is going to lower your happiness.”

Before Martin could respond, Trump jumped in: “That’s true, I like that question. Do you know you have Rosie O’Donnell? Do you know who she is? You’re better off not knowing.”

The actress, who is now in the process of obtaining Irish citizenship, has gushed about her experience abroad. “It’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say,” she said in a TikTok video. “And the people have been so loving, so kind and so welcoming. And I’m very grateful.”
