Trump Oversaw Record Oil, Gas Production in 2025: Report

President Donald J. Trump is delivering on a cornerstone promise of his second term, as new federal data shows the United States reached record levels of offshore oil production in 2025—marking a major milestone for American energy independence.

According to the U.S. Department of the Interior, offshore oil output surged to an unprecedented 714 million barrels last year, underscoring the administration’s aggressive push to expand domestic energy production and reduce reliance on foreign sources.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum credited the achievement to President Trump’s pro-energy policies, which have prioritized regulatory reform, investment incentives, and streamlined permitting processes.

“President Trump has made it clear that America should fully develop its abundant energy resources in a way that strengthens our economy and benefits American families,” Burgum said. “By providing regulatory certainty, streamlining processes and encouraging responsible development, this administration is unlocking the full potential of our domestic energy resources — supporting job creation, lowering energy prices, strengthening energy security and maintaining strong safety and environmental protections.”

The administration’s approach—focused on cutting bureaucratic red tape and empowering energy producers—has triggered a surge in offshore investment, particularly in the Gulf of America, a region long viewed as a backbone of U.S. energy output.

“American energy leadership is a cornerstone of our economic strength and national security,” Burgum added. “This record production reflects the hard work of American energy workers and the strength of our offshore resources, helping drive economic growth, support good-paying jobs and deliver affordable, reliable energy to families and businesses.”

The milestone also fulfills a key pledge President Trump made during the 2024 campaign, when he vowed to restore what he called a “pro-American energy policy.” At the time, he emphasized a sweeping rollback of restrictive regulations that had hindered domestic production.

“I will deploy a team of warrior lawyers to hunt down every unnecessary regulation in the federal registry that hampers domestic production, and we will wipe them off the books,” Trump said.

“Nobody has more liquid gold under their feet than the United States of America, and we will use it and profit by it and live with it, and we will be rich again, and we will be happy again and will be proud again,” he added.

Beyond domestic gains, the administration is also leveraging America’s energy dominance on the global stage. At a recent Indo-Pacific energy summit, U.S. officials announced that Japan will significantly expand its purchases of American oil and energy resources as part of $56 billion in new agreements.

Under Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Japan is strengthening its energy partnership with the United States amid growing geopolitical instability and ongoing disruptions in global supply chains.

Burgum highlighted the strategic importance of these agreements, noting that American energy exports are helping counter the influence of adversarial nations while reinforcing alliances.

“The United States of America has the ability to deliver freedom of navigation and free supplies,” Burgum said, adding that the U.S. has “effectively displaced two-thirds of the Russian gas in all of Western Europe.”

As global markets remain volatile, the administration’s energy-first strategy is positioning the United States not only as a dominant producer, but as a reliable supplier to allies—advancing both economic growth at home and stability abroad.
