Trump Rips CNN For Posting ‘Fraud’ Statement from Iran After Cease-Fire

President Donald J. Trump sharply criticized CNN after the network published a report citing claims from the Iranian government that it had forced the United States into accepting a sweeping cease-fire agreement.

The report, which cited a statement from Iran’s Supreme National Security Council carried by Iranian state media, asserted that Tehran had secured a “great victory” and compelled Washington to agree to a 10-point cease-fire plan.

According to the Iranian claims highlighted in the report, the United States had supposedly agreed in principle to lift sanctions, withdraw American forces from regional bases, and recognize Iran’s nuclear enrichment program while coordinating passage through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz with Iranian forces.

Critics immediately questioned the credibility of the claims, noting that Trump’s central objective during the confrontation with the Islamic Republic has been to eliminate Iran’s nuclear enrichment capabilities and prevent the regime from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Trump Calls Report a “Fraud”

Trump responded forcefully on his Truth Social platform, accusing CNN of spreading a fabricated narrative that originated from a dubious source.

“The alleged Statement put out by CNN World News is a FRAUD, as CNN well knows. The false Statement was linked to a Fake News site (from Nigeria) and, of course, immediately picked up by CNN, and blared out as a “legitimate” headline. The Official Statement by Iran was just released, and posted on TRUTH, below. Authorities are looking to determine whether or not a crime was committed on the issuance of the Fake CNN World Statement, or was it a sick rogue player? CNN is being ordered to immediately withdraw this Statement with full apologies for their, as usual, terrible “reporting.” Results of the investigation will be announced in the near future.”

In a second post, the president doubled down on his criticism of the network’s reporting.

“No one can believe that Fake News CNN put out a knowingly false and dangerous statement pretending it came from the upper levels of the Iranian Government. It didn’t! It was totally made up and posted, as a headline, for purpose of, perhaps, inflaming a very delicate situation. It was a new, trouble making site from Nigeria, and CNN just got caught cheating – A very dangerous thing to do!”

Vance Warns Iran Ahead of Cease-Fire Deadline

Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance addressed the escalating standoff with Iran during remarks delivered in Hungary alongside Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

Vance discussed a looming deadline for Tehran to respond to U.S. demands regarding a potential cease-fire agreement.

“We feel confident that we can get a response, whether it’s positive or negative, we’re gonna get a response from the Iranians by 8 o’clock tonight,” Vance said. “I hope they make the right response because what we really want is we want a world where oil and gas is flowing freely, where people can afford to heat their homes and cool their homes, where people can afford to transport themselves to work.”

The vice president warned that continued aggression from Tehran could trigger additional measures from Washington.

“That’s not gonna happen if the Iranians are engaged in acts of economic terrorism,” Vance continued. “They’ve got to know, we’ve got tools in our toolkit that we so far haven’t decided to use. The president of the United States can decide to use them, and he will decide to use them if the Iranians don’t change their course of conduct.”

Strategic Oil Route Remains Key Issue

The Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most important oil shipping lanes—remains central to the geopolitical standoff.

About a week earlier, Trump announced that Iran had agreed to allow additional oil tankers to pass through the waterway, describing the development as a “tribute” to the United States as negotiations continued to defuse the crisis.

The episode highlights the ongoing information battle surrounding the conflict, with competing narratives emerging from Tehran, international media outlets, and the Trump administration itself.

For the White House, the priority remains preventing Iran from advancing its nuclear ambitions while protecting the stability of global energy markets and key maritime routes.
