Trump Says 'At Least $2,000' in Tariff Dividends 'Will Be Paid to Everyone'

President Donald J. Trump says it’s time for everyday Americans to directly benefit from his tough-on-trade policies — and he’s ready to deliver cash dividends funded by the booming success of his tariff strategy.

People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS!” Trump declared Sunday in a fiery post on Truth Social.

We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price. 401k’s are Highest EVER. We are taking in Trillions of Dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion. Record Investment in the USA, plants and factories going up all over the place,” Trump wrote.

The president added that those same revenues should now go directly to the American people.

A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone,” he announced.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the idea isn’t entirely new. During the height of the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) efforts to slash federal waste, Trump had suggested that surplus savings could be shared with taxpayers.

It’s also not the first time Trump has sent direct payments to Americans — he approved stimulus checks during his first term to cushion the economic impact of COVID-19 shutdowns.

The White House confirmed Sunday that the current administration stands firmly behind the tariff strategy.

The Administration is committed to putting this money to good use for the American people,” a White House official told The Wall Street Journal.

Still, the plan’s fate may rest with the Supreme Court. Justices are weighing whether President Trump has the constitutional authority to impose tariffs without explicit congressional approval — a case that could redefine executive power over trade policy.

According to Fox Business, tariff revenues surged this year — $23.9 billion in May, $28 billion in June, and $29 billion in July. For fiscal year 2025, which ended September 30, the federal government collected $215.2 billion in tariff revenue. Since the new fiscal year began October 1, another $35.9 billion has already flowed in.

Critics, including The New York Times, argue that raising revenue falls under Congress’s domain. But Solicitor General D. John Sauer defended Trump’s approach, insisting the tariffs are a tool of foreign policy, not a tax scheme.

These are regulatory tariffs,” Sauer said. “They are not revenue-raising tariffs. The fact that they raise revenue is only incidental. The tariffs would be most effective, so to speak, if no person ever paid them.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh appeared to agree, noting that Trump was using tariffs “to help settle the Russian-Ukraine war.

Whether the Court sides with Trump or not, one thing is clear: his America First economic vision is producing record-breaking results — and he’s ready to make sure working Americans share in the prosperity.
