Trump Says He May Send Rebate Checks to 'People of a Certain Income Level'

President Donald J. Trump revealed Friday that his administration is actively considering issuing rebate checks to American citizens as a direct benefit from the historic surge in tariff revenues generated by his “America First” trade policies.

“We have so much money coming in,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “We’re thinking about a little rebate.”

The president emphasized that his top priority remains fiscal responsibility and tackling the nation’s debt but acknowledged that returning some of the revenue to hardworking Americans is on the table.

“But the big thing we want to do is pay down debt,” Trump said. “But we’re thinking about a rebate.”

Trump praised a reporter for pressing the topic further, signaling that Americans could soon hear more about the proposal.

“That’s a very good question,” he said. “You just made a lot of news.”

Trump went on to explain that the rebate, if implemented, would be targeted to Americans at specific income levels.

“We’re thinking about a rebate because we have so much money coming in from tariffs that a little rebate for people of a certain income level might be very nice,” he concluded.

Trump, who returned to the White House in January for his second term, has doubled down on his aggressive trade agenda aimed at revitalizing American manufacturing and reducing dependence on foreign goods.

The Washington Times reported last month that the federal government has collected more than $106 billion in tariff revenue since President Trump first took office. Of that total, $81.5 billion has been collected during his second term alone, driven by new tariffs placed on imported goods.

The Department of Homeland Security hailed the numbers as proof positive of the president’s trade strategy at work, underscoring its impact on the U.S. economy.

Trump recalled a conversation with a senior official who initially described the federal revenue ledger as “a mess” because of the unprecedented windfall.

“He calls me back two hours later and says, ‘You’re right,’” Trump recounted, after instructing the official to look at the tariffs column.

The president stressed that the benefits of his policies go beyond government revenue.

“We have companies coming in, factories coming in,” he said, highlighting the broader economic revival under his administration’s pro-growth, pro-worker agenda.
