Trump Says Karoline Leavitt ‘Irreplaceable’ In Touching Interview

President Donald Trump praised outgoing White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt as “irreplaceable” while joking about her decision to leave the administration and spend more time with her young family.

Leavitt, 28, announced last week that she will step down at the end of the month after struggling to balance the demanding position with raising two young children.

Her departure surprised many in Washington and leaves Trump searching for a new chief spokesperson ahead of November’s crucial midterm elections.

Trump Jokes About Leavitt’s Departure

Fox News correspondent Alexis McAdams asked Trump about Leavitt during an interview Monday.

“Is Karoline Leavitt replaceable?” McAdams asked.

“No, she’s not. She really isn’t. She’s standing right over there and she’s done a great job,” Trump responded.

The president then jokingly questioned Leavitt’s priorities.

“She actually likes her children more than she likes Trump. I’m very concerned about that,” he said.

McAdams noted the difficulty of balancing family life with one of Washington’s most demanding communications positions before asking whether Trump had a successor in mind.

“It’s a lot to juggle, right? You said you support that. Going back, is there somebody you have in mind that you’d like to see up at the podium to take over?” she asked.

“You. How about you? She could do the job. I think so,” Trump joked.

“What do you think, Karoline? I like it. I’ve always liked you. That’s why I’m doing this. I don’t do this that often. I get off, I make a speech, here I come, often we see Alexis. You have done a great job,” Trump continued.

Although Trump’s suggestion was made in jest, his response demonstrated that the administration may still be considering several possibilities.

Alina Habba’s Name Enters Speculation

Another figure increasingly mentioned as a potential successor is Trump attorney and former acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba.

Trump spent the weekend at his Bedminster estate in New Jersey, where he was joined by members of his inner circle.

Video posted on social media showed Habba among dozens of guests attending a gathering with the president.

Her presence does not confirm that Trump intends to offer her the job. However, Habba’s close relationship with the president, extensive television experience and aggressive defense of his agenda have made her a natural subject of speculation.

The press secretary position requires someone capable of confronting a hostile press corps, communicating Trump’s policies and defending the administration during intense political controversies.

Habba has repeatedly demonstrated a willingness to do all three.

Leavitt Stepping Down for Family

Leavitt said the demands of the job had become increasingly difficult to manage following the birth of her second child, Viviana, on May 1.

She returned to work after giving birth but ultimately decided that she needed to devote more time to her family.

Leavitt became one of the administration’s most recognizable figures and earned praise from conservatives for her direct responses to reporters and her willingness to challenge hostile premises during White House briefings.

Trump’s description of her as irreplaceable reflected the prominent role she played in presenting his second-term agenda to the American public.

Her successor will inherit the position at a particularly consequential moment, with Republicans preparing for midterm elections that will determine control of the House and Senate.

Habba Became Prominent Defending Trump

Habba, 42, was a member of Trump’s legal team during the New York civil fraud case brought by Democratic Attorney General Letitia James.

The lawsuit accused Trump and his company of misrepresenting the value of financial assets.

Judge Arthur Engoron ruled against Trump in 2024 and imposed a judgment exceeding $460 million. A New York appellate court overturned the ruling in August 2025, delivering a major victory to the president.

Habba’s high-profile role in the litigation made her a familiar face to Trump supporters as she regularly defended him during television interviews and courthouse appearances.

The New Jersey native founded Habba, Madaio and Associates LLP in 2020, opening offices in Bedminster and New York.

Former Acting U.S. Attorney

Trump appointed Habba acting U.S. attorney for New Jersey in March 2025, placing her in charge of federal criminal and civil litigation in the state.

Her tenure ended in December 2025 after an appeals court determined that her appointment did not comply with federal requirements.

Habba responded defiantly after leaving the position.

“But do not mistake compliance for surrender,” she wrote on X. “This decision will not weaken the Justice Department, and it will not weaken me.”

That combative approach could appeal to Trump as he searches for someone capable of taking over the White House podium during a fiercely contested election season.

For now, the administration has not officially announced a replacement, and Habba remains one of several rumored candidates.

Trump’s affection for Leavitt is clear. Finding someone with the same combination of message discipline, loyalty and comfort confronting the media may prove far more difficult.
