Trump Says Things Are Moving In The Right Direction After First 100 Days
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, President Donald Trump defended his administration’s early performance while unloading on critics in the media and the Biden-era policies he says “destroyed” the country.
“I think we have the greatest 100 days in the history of our country for that administration,” Trump declared. “We’re planning to do more. We’ve gotten rid of woke. We’re strengthening up our military.”
He continued, “Six months ago, we had the worst numbers in the history of our military for joining up. Now we have the best numbers we’ve ever had. Just think of that.”
The president pointed to a rapid economic turnaround, stating that “inflation’s down, all costs are down, energy’s down, gas is down.” He joked about one minor exception, referencing a price hike in baby carriers: “Everything is down other than, as Tristan said, the, uh, thing that you carry the babies around in. But that’s up 3%.”
He added, “Nobody’s ever seen anything — far ahead of schedule. The Democrats were destroying our country.”
Trump also touched on financial markets and the Federal Reserve, noting, “Interest rates are even down. You know, we have a very stubborn Fed, but Mitch — I mean, Fitch and [inaudible] — that’s okay. Mortgage rates are down. It’s been pretty amazing.”
“I don’t think there’s ever been a better opening 100 days,” he concluded.
Calls Out “Fake” Polls and Media Bias
Trump once again took aim at what he described as skewed polling practices and media corruption.
“We have a lot of fake polls when they interview Democrats, not Republicans,” he said. “I had a pollster — a legitimate pollster, John McLaughlin — top person. He said he’s never seen polls that were so fake before where they overweigh the Democrats.”
He added, “It’s a shame how dishonest the media is. The media is corrupt and they’re dishonest, and they’re so bad for our country.”
In a recent interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, Trump hinted at who he might like to see take the reins in 2028, naming Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as top contenders.
“It’s far too early to say that,” Trump said when asked about his preference for a successor. “But you know, I do have a vice president … and JD’s doing a fantastic job. I don’t want to get involved in that. I think he’s a fantastic, brilliant guy. Marco is great. There’s a lot of them that are great.”
While he joked previously about running for a third term, Trump reiterated that he has no serious intention of doing so.
“I’ll be an eight-year president. I’ll be a two-term president. I always thought that was very important,” he said. “This is not something I’m looking to do. I’m looking to have four great years and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican.”
Trump emphasized that the economic improvements under his leadership contrast sharply with the struggles during Joe Biden’s presidency.
“I think the good parts are the Trump economy and the bad parts are the Biden economy because he’s done a terrible job,” Trump said.
He didn’t hold back: “He did a terrible job on everything, from his autopen – which I’m sure he knew nothing about – some of the things he was supposedly signing.”
