Trump Secures Major Diplomatic Win: India to Halt Russian Oil Purchases

President Donald Trump announced Friday that India will cease purchasing oil from Russia, marking a major foreign policy victory for his administration and a pivotal move in reshaping global energy dynamics.

During a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump confirmed the development, underscoring the impact of his administration’s negotiations.

“India is not going to be buying Russian oil anymore, and Hungary is sort of stuck, because they have one pipeline, it’s been there for years and years and years, and they’re inland — they don’t have sea,” he said.

Trump continued:

“But India will not be buying oil from Russia.”

The decision marks a critical step in Trump’s broader strategy to economically isolate Russia while pursuing a negotiated peace between Moscow and Kyiv. The President revealed that he and Zelenskyy also plan to discuss new weapons agreements that would enable Ukraine to strike strategic targets deep inside Russian territory, signaling a tactical escalation balanced by diplomatic outreach.

Despite intensifying pressure on the Kremlin, Trump reaffirmed his belief that Russian President Vladimir Putin can still be persuaded to end the conflict through negotiation rather than destruction.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to get the war over with without thinking about Tomahawks,” Trump said.

The President also confirmed that his upcoming meeting with Putin in Hungary will be a one-on-one discussion, with the United States maintaining continuous communication with Zelenskyy throughout the process.

Since beginning his second term in January, President Trump has made ending the war in Ukraine one of his top foreign policy priorities, combining firm economic leverage with diplomatic outreach.

Friday’s statement may represent a turning point in U.S. foreign policy, as Trump consolidates influence over global energy markets while advancing a peace framework that strengthens America’s leadership on the world stage.

The White House has not yet released specific details of the agreement with India, but the announcement alone signals another significant win for President Trump’s global peace and energy realignment strategy.
