Trump Slams Rosie O’Donnell During Meeting With Irish PM

During a White House meeting on Wednesday with Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin, President Donald Trump took the opportunity to comment on actress Rosie O’Donnell’s decision to relocate to Ireland.

A reporter posed a question to Irish Prime Minister Martin, inquiring about why he allowed the American comedian to move to the country. Before Martin could respond, Trump interjected.

“Ireland is known for very happy, fun-loving people,” the reporter remarked to Martin at the White House.

“Why in the world would you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland?” the reporter asked. “I think she is going to lower your happiness.”

Trump was quick to respond, saying, “That’s true, I like that question. Do you know you have Rosie O’Donnell? Do you know who she is? You’re better off not knowing.”

Trump’s remarks followed O’Donnell’s revelation that she had been living in Ireland and was in the process of applying for Irish citizenship.

“It’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say,” the 62-year-old shared in a TikTok video. “And the people have been so loving, so kind and so welcoming. And I’m very grateful.”

O’Donnell acknowledged that she left the U.S. on January 15, just five days before Trump’s inauguration.

“Although I was someone who never thought I would move to another country, that’s what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child,” she explained.

Tensions between O’Donnell and Trump date back to 2006 when she criticized him during her tenure as a co-host on “The View” for his handling of a Miss USA winner accused of drug use and misconduct.

Trump retaliated by calling O’Donnell a “real loser.”

At the time, in reference to then-Miss USA Tara Conner, Trump, who owned the annual pageant, defended his decision, stating, “I’m a believer in second chances. Tara is a good person. Tara has tried hard. Tara is going to be given a second chance.”

In 2014, O’Donnell said that her public disputes with Trump led to the “most bullying I ever experienced in my life.”

Since Trump’s first presidential campaign and subsequent victory, O’Donnell joked on “Late Night” with Seth Meyers that she spends “about 90% of my working hours tweeting hatred toward this administration.”

During the 2015 Republican primary debate, Trump responded to a question about derogatory terms he had used for women, including “fat pigs” and “slob.” His response was a sharp, “Only Rosie O’Donnell.”

During the last election cycle, Trump once again referenced O’Donnell at the October Al Smith dinner, commenting that “The View” had become so bad that its producers “really need to bring Rosie O’Donnell back.”

Despite her ongoing clashes with Trump, O’Donnell affirmed that she and her daughters are “happy” in Ireland.

“I miss my other kids,” she admitted, referring to her five grown children. “I miss my friends. I miss many things about life there at home. And I’m trying to find a home here in this beautiful country. And when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back.”

O’Donnell did not specify what rights she and other Americans had lost since Trump began his second term in office.

Fox News reported that The “Flintstones” star also expressed her continued concern for the U.S., stating, “I am hoping that we can turn things around. I’m counting on you, all of you, to do what’s right. And I think deep down inside we all know what that is.”

For the record, Trump secured a decisive Electoral College victory and won the popular vote by nearly two million ballots.
