Trump Stunned by What He Finds in North Carolina, Threatens Ultimate Accountability for FEMA

He may no longer be in the White House, but Joe Biden still manages to shock his successor.
President Donald Trump made this clear during a visit to North Carolina on Friday, where he assessed the state’s ongoing recovery from Hurricane Helene, according to WCNC-TV.
Speaking to reporters, Trump expressed disbelief at the devastation that remains months after the hurricane made landfall in late September 2024, leaving 104 people dead.
“It’s still a disaster zone,” Trump remarked, adding that he had serious concerns about the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and its handling of the recovery efforts.
“FEMA has been a very big disappointment,” Trump told the press, per WCNC. “They cost a tremendous amount of money, it’s very bureaucratic, and it’s very slow. Other than that, we’re very happy with them.”
Referring to FEMA’s track record under the Biden administration, Trump said, “You’ve had nothing but disaster since then.”
He continued: “Biden did a bad job. Some residents still don’t have hot water, drinking water, or anything else, and many of them don’t have quarters. They don’t have anything. They got a stipend for what they lost, and we’re going to take care of it. This is totally unacceptable, and I’ll be taking strong action to get North Carolina the support that you need to quickly recover and rebuild.”
According to WCNC, Trump sees FEMA as an unnecessary middleman that complicates disaster recovery.
“Trump said he was going to recommend FEMA goes away, instead paying states directly for their work and cutting out the federal agency that ‘complicates’ recovery,” the outlet reported.
Explaining his stance, Trump stated, “We’d pay a percentage to the state, but the state should fix this. If the state did this from the beginning, it would have been a lot better situation.”
It’s no surprise that Trump is considering eliminating FEMA altogether.
As an advocate for reducing government inefficiency, Trump has even established a Department of Government Efficiency to address wasteful spending and bureaucratic red tape.
But Trump’s commitment to North Carolina goes beyond rhetoric. Back in October 2024, just days after Hurricane Helene struck, Trump and Elon Musk bypassed traditional channels to provide internet access to affected communities.
Other charitable organizations followed their lead, working around FEMA to deliver direct aid to victims.
