Trump Suspect Had ‘Weird’ Family That Kept Horse In Home: Neighbor

Ryan Routh, the suspect in the failed assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, has a long history of arrests in Guilford County, North Carolina, where he once lived in Greensboro.

Routh's criminal record in Guilford County stretches from the 1980s to 2010, covering a range of offenses. His charges varied from writing bad checks to more severe felonies, including firearm possession, possession of a stolen vehicle, and multiple counts related to weapons of mass destruction in 2002. Notably, he was charged with possessing a binary explosive device that included a 10-inch detonation cord and a blasting cap, according to a report by Fox News.

A neighbor, who had known Routh for nearly 18 years before he relocated to Hawaii and left his Greensboro home vacant for over a year, described the family as "weird" when speaking to reporters outside her house, located next to Routh's former residence in North Carolina.

"He had a horse in the house. I mean, a whole live horse inside," said Kim Mungo. "But I could see the guns and everything. They were ... oh, I mean, kind of weird. But they never bothered me, and I didn’t bother them. I told all my friends because they didn’t believe me."

Reflecting further, Mungo added, “It’s just crazy to me. He was a good guy. He was sweet,” noting that “his daughter was like” her own daughter. She mentioned that she sometimes drove Routh's daughter to school, although they no longer keep in touch.

Mungo also said the family never expressed any strong political opinions.

Other neighbors interviewed by Fox News Digital were unfamiliar with Routh and were shocked to learn about his alleged involvement in the attempted assassination.

Court records reveal that after Routh and his ex-wife divorced in 2003, their daughter lived with him full-time, while their son remained in the custody of his ex-wife. A neighbor mentioned that Routh's ex-wife now lives with her current husband and maintains a cordial, normal relationship. The neighbor also observed what seemed to be police activity at their home on Sunday evening, shortly after Routh was taken into custody following the incident at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach.

In 2009, Routh’s ex-wife raised concerns about his “financial situation” and agreed to terminate his child support obligations.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, along with other law enforcement officials, provided details about the attempted assassination of former President Trump at his golf club in Florida and how close Trump was to the attacker.

Speaking to reporters, Bradshaw shared that a Secret Service agent had thwarted the planned attempt after spotting the barrel of a rifle near the next hole where Trump was about to play.

Below is a transcript of the conversation between Sheriff Bradshaw and a reporter:

BRADSHAW: “The Secret Service agent on the course did an outstanding job. What they do is position an agent a hole ahead of where the president is playing, and he spotted the rifle barrel sticking through the fence and immediately engaged the suspect, who then fled the scene.”

Reporter: “So just to clarify, the agent saw a rifle on the golf course, pointing out of the fence? Was it a chain link fence?”

UNKNOWN: “That’s correct, yes.”

Reporter: “How close was the former president to this incident?”

UNKNOWN: “He was one or two holes behind.”

Reporter: “Why was that?”

UNKNOWN: “As the protective bubble moves across the course, our agents clear the area first. The agent spotted the rifle, engaged the subject, and at this time, we’re not sure if the suspect managed to fire at our agents, but the agents did engage.”

Reporter: “Was the suspect hit?”

UNKNOWN: “We’re not certain at this moment.”

BRADSHAW: “It doesn’t appear so.”

Reporter 2: “How far was Donald Trump when the suspect was engaged?”

BRADSHAW: “He was probably between 300 and 500 yards away. But with a rifle and a scope like that, it’s not a significant distance.”
