Trump to Use Profits from Dem-Opposed Tariffs to Save Women and Children's Food Program During Dem Government Shutdown

In a bold display of executive ingenuity, President Donald J. Trump has ordered that tariff revenue be redirected to fund the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition program — ensuring that mothers and babies continue receiving food assistance despite the ongoing Democrat-led government shutdown.

The move, which bypasses Washington gridlock and showcases the administration’s signature problem-solving style, keeps WIC operational at a time when Democrats’ refusal to pass key spending measures threatened to halt benefits for millions of low-income families.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt praised the initiative on Tuesday, calling it an example of Trump’s “America First innovation.”

“The Democrats are so cruel in their continual votes to shut down the government that they forced the WIC program for the most vulnerable women and children to run out this week,” Leavitt wrote on X.

“Thankfully, President Trump and the White House have identified a creative solution to transfer resources from Section 232 tariff revenue to this critical program. The Trump White House will not allow impoverished mothers and their babies to go hungry because of the Democrats’ political games.”

According to Fox News, the White House confirmed that tariff revenue will cover WIC’s operational costs “for the foreseeable future.”

The WIC program, officially the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, distributes debit cards to help eligible families purchase essential foods like milk, eggs, baby formula, fruits, vegetables, and yogurt. The program cost $7.6 billion in the 2025 fiscal year.

President Trump’s tariffs — many levied under Section 232 for national security reasons — have generated roughly $190 billion in revenue this year, far exceeding expectations and providing the fiscal flexibility needed to sustain key programs amid the shutdown.

Predictably, critics questioned the legality of the move. Chris Towner, policy director at the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, told CNN, “The problem isn’t that they don’t have the money — it’s that Congress hasn’t told them they can spend it.”

But the White House made clear that leadership means finding solutions, not excuses. When CNN asked for comment, officials referred the outlet back to Leavitt’s post, which has already gone viral among supporters praising the administration’s quick action.

Even prior to the announcement, the Department of Agriculture had authorized up to $150 million in emergency funds to help state WIC agencies bridge potential shortfalls — but the President’s decisive move ensures long-term stability for the program without relying on congressional approval.

By channeling tariff revenue to protect America’s most vulnerable, President Trump once again demonstrated the power of pragmatic leadership — and the contrast between his administration’s results-oriented approach and the obstructionism of his political opponents.
