Trump Unveils New ‘Most Beautiful’ New Addition To DC
President Donald J. Trump on Friday unveiled an ambitious vision for a monumental Triumphal Arch in Washington, D.C., signaling yet another bold effort to restore grandeur and patriotic symbolism to the nation’s capital.
“I am pleased to announce that TODAY my Administration officially filed the presentation and plans to the highly respected Commission of Fine Arts for what will be the GREATEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL Triumphal Arch, anywhere in the World,” Trump wrote in a social media post.
He concluded: “This will be a wonderful addition to the Washington D.C. area for all Americans to enjoy for many decades to come!”

The announcement was accompanied by a detailed rendering of the proposed structure, which draws inspiration from the iconic Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France. However, Trump’s vision goes even further—potentially dwarfing historic American landmarks in scale and presence. Reports indicate the president favors a towering 250-foot design to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, a milestone reflecting the enduring strength of the republic.
Dubbed “The Independence Arch,” the concept was first previewed by the White House earlier this year through three preliminary renderings. The structure is slated for a prominent location between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery, forming a symbolic gateway between the nation’s political heritage and its honored fallen.
According to the Associated Press, “The plan indicates the structure would stand between the Lincoln Memorial in the east and Arlington National Cemetery toward the west and within a traffic circle connecting Washington with northern Virginia. The arch would dwarf the Lincoln Memorial, which stands at 99 feet tall (30.2 meters).”
Designed by Harrison Design, the project aims to blend classical architectural inspiration with unmistakable American symbolism. White House spokesman Davis Ingle emphasized the deeper purpose behind the initiative, stating the arch “will enhance the visitor experience at Arlington National Cemetery for veterans, the families of the fallen, and all Americans alike, serving as a visual reminder of the noble sacrifices borne by so many American heroes throughout our 250 year history so we can enjoy our freedoms today.”
Ingle added, “President Trump will continue to honor our veterans and give the greatest Nation on earth — America — the glory it deserves.”

The proposed structure would rise from the Memorial Circle roundabout near the Arlington Memorial Bridge, overlooking the Potomac River. If completed, it would claim the title of the tallest triumphal arch in the world—surpassing not only the Arc de Triomphe, but also international monuments such as Mexico City’s Monumento a la Revolución.
Renderings depict a striking design featuring a central figure reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty, flanked by gilded eagles and lions—symbols long associated with American strength and courage. Patriotic inscriptions, including “One Nation Under God” and “Liberty and Justice For All,” are prominently displayed, reinforcing the nation’s founding ideals.
The proposal is currently under review by the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, a federal body tasked with overseeing major developments in the capital. A decision is expected following an upcoming commission meeting.
This project is part of a broader initiative by President Trump to reimagine Washington, D.C., through large-scale, patriotic investments. Among these efforts is the planned National Garden of American Heroes, which would feature 250 statues honoring key figures in U.S. history, as well as significant upgrades to the White House complex.
Previously, Trump showcased models of the arch during a White House fundraising event tied to a proposed $400 million ballroom expansion—an initiative that would dramatically modernize the executive residence while preserving its historical significance.

At a projected height of 250 feet, the Independence Arch would stand more than twice as tall as the Lincoln Memorial and exceed global counterparts, serving as a bold testament to American exceptionalism and the enduring legacy of freedom.
