Trump Vows Action After Ukrainian Refugee Murdered by Career Criminal on Charlotte Light Rail
President Donald J. Trump has pledged to personally review the case of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska, a Ukrainian refugee brutally murdered on Charlotte’s light rail system last month.
The accused killer, 34-year-old Decarlos Brown, had a lengthy criminal record and documented mental health issues — yet was still walking free in a Democrat-run city notorious for crime and mismanagement. Even his own mother admitted he “shouldn’t have been out on the streets.”
A Shocking Crime Caught on Camera
The fatal attack occurred on August 22, but it only gained national outrage after disturbing video of the incident surfaced last Friday.
In the footage, Brown is seen lurking behind Zarutska before suddenly pulling out a pocket knife and stabbing her three times in the throat. She died on the train. Brown has since been charged with first-degree murder.
She ran from war in Ukraine. She came here for safety.

And America FAILED her.

Trump Responds: “Horrible”
Speaking in Maryland during remarks on National Guard deployments to Washington, D.C., and Chicago, President Trump was asked about Zarutska’s murder.
“Horrible,” Trump said, adding: “I’ll know all about it by tomorrow.”
Eric Daughtry of Florida’s Voice News praised the President’s immediate attention to the case:
“The President of the United States should know about what happened. It is a sign of our MAJOR urban decay and culture of crime propped up by the left. Don’t let the story be forgotten.”

A System That Protected the Criminal, Not the Victim
According to WCNC, Brown had 14 prior court cases in Mecklenburg County, including convictions for armed robbery, breaking and entering, and larceny. He served just six years in prison. Most of his other charges were dropped.
Earlier this year, Brown was even arrested for abusing the 911 system after calling to report a “man-made” substance in his body controlling him — a bizarre outburst highlighting his mental instability. Still, judges allowed him to remain free.
Axios reported: “Even Brown’s mother has blamed the courts for allowing her son to be out in the community.”
Charlotte’s Crime Crisis
Charlotte Councilwoman Dimple Ajmera admitted the public has lost faith in the city’s transit system and demanded “immediate steps” to restore rider safety.
But the truth is bigger than light rail security. Charlotte’s violent crime rate stands at 4,438.5 per 100,000 residents — higher than Chicago and the fourth worst among U.S. cities over one million in population.
This is the reality in Democrat-controlled cities: criminals are given leniency while law-abiding citizens — and even war refugees who fled tyranny abroad — pay with their lives.
Trump’s Warning to Lawless Cities
President Trump has long warned about the collapse of safety in blue-run cities. With cases like this, the message is undeniable: when local officials refuse to enforce the law, the National Guard may be the only force left to restore order.
The murder of Iryna Zarutska is a tragic reminder that America cannot remain safe if violent offenders are repeatedly released back onto the streets. Under Trump’s leadership, this broken system is finally being called to account.
