Trump Weighs Citizenship Revocation for Rosie O’Donnell After Her Apology Falls Flat
One of President Donald Trump’s longest-standing critics, Rosie O’Donnell, found herself in an awkward position this past week after being forced to apologize for spreading a false claim.
The former actress and comedian had inaccurately asserted that school shooter Robin Westman was a Trump supporter. After backlash, she issued an apology — but without much sincerity or reflection.
President Trump responded on Wednesday, suggesting the apology was both “too little, too late” and revealing his latest thoughts on his decades-long feud with O’Donnell.
“As previously mentioned, we are giving serious thought to taking away Rosie O’Donnell’s Citizenship,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “She is not a Great American and is, in my opinion, incapable of being so!”

This was not the first time the President floated the idea. In July, he used similar language in a Truth Social post, once again questioning O’Donnell’s loyalty to the country.
“Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,” Trump wrote. “She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
O’Donnell had previously declared her intention to relocate to Ireland after Trump secured his second presidential term, though she never renounced her American citizenship.
A Longstanding Rivalry
The bitter back-and-forth between Trump and O’Donnell is not new. The two have sparred for years, with Trump consistently criticizing her as emblematic of the radical Hollywood left, and O’Donnell firing back with her own harsh words.
While constitutional protections under the Fourteenth Amendment make it nearly impossible to strip O’Donnell of her U.S. citizenship — especially since she was born in New York — Trump’s sharp rebuke ensures that the feud remains alive and well.
Whether or not the legal mechanics allow for such a move, the message from the President was unmistakable: Rosie O’Donnell, in his view, has long failed to live up to the standards of American patriotism.
And given the long history of animosity between them, this frosty relationship shows no signs of thawing.
