Trump’s Popularity Rises Amid Tariff Hysteria: Survey
Former President Donald Trump is experiencing a boost in public support following his announcement of wide-reaching tariffs that have disrupted global markets.
A new DailyMail.com/J.L. Partners poll, conducted between March 31 and April 3 and surveying over 1,000 registered voters, reveals that Trump’s approval rating has climbed to 53 percent—a notable four-point jump from the previous week’s 49 percent figure, according to DailyMail.com.
The uptick in approval comes despite backlash aimed at the administration over the broad tariff initiative signed last Wednesday. The poll highlighted an especially sharp rise in support from young voters aged 18 to 29, where Trump gained 13 points since March 7. Approval also increased by six points among both Democratic and independent voters.

One of the most notable shifts was among Black voters, where Trump’s support surged by 17 points in just a week. When it comes to his blanket 10 percent tariff on imported products, more Americans are in favor of the measure than opposed.
Survey results indicate that 36 percent of those polled back the proposed 10 percent minimum tariff, compared to 28 percent who disapprove. The remaining 36 percent were uncertain. In addition, 39 percent of voters supported higher tariffs on goods from all foreign countries, while 37 percent were against the idea and 24 percent remained undecided.
Public backing has also grown for imposing broad tariffs specifically targeting imports from China and the European Union. Moreover, there was strong voter approval for tariffs applied to key sectors like aircraft manufacturing, plastics, precious metals, steel, and iron.
Whether these new tariff policies will stick is still up in the air.
Trump addressed the issue Friday via a post on Truth Social, revealing active talks with Vietnam to potentially eliminate tariffs between the two nations. The former president shared: “Just had a very productive call with To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, who told me that Vietnam wants to cut their tariffs down to zero if they are able to make an agreement with the U.S.” He added, “I thanked him on behalf of our country, and said I look forward to a meeting in the near future.”
In a separate development, Argentine President Javier Milei stated during a Florida event on Friday that his administration is also pursuing a zero-tariff agreement with Trump’s team. This potential deal would cover about 50 export goods and could pave the way for a broader Free Trade Agreement (FTA), according to Merco Press.
Milei made these remarks while attending the American Patriots Gala at Mar-a-Lago—an event hosted by conservative groups Make America Clean Again and We Fund the Blue—where he was honored with the “Lion of Liberty Award” for his commitment to free-market values.
During his speech, Milei discussed plans to overhaul Argentine policies to meet U.S. trade standards. He was joined at the event by Economy Minister Luis Toto Caputo and Foreign Affairs Minister Gerardo Werthein.
Milei shared that negotiations are progressing well, with five of the eight initial trade barriers already resolved. Talks aim to boost exports—particularly the 80 percent of Argentine products currently sold to the U.S.—while keeping strong ties with Mercosur.
He also reiterated his mission to make Argentina “the freest economy in the world,” citing recent achievements like 6 percent economic growth and a reduction in poverty by 20 percent since December 2023.
“For all these objectives and measures, the whole of politics, the media, the unions and many businessmen accommodated by the previous regime repeated over and over again that it was impossible to function,” Milei emphasized. “Our reform agenda continues because our goal is to be the freest country in the world.”
