Two U.S. Service Members Lose Their Lives Near Southern Border
A tragic incident has resulted in the deaths of two U.S. service members along the nation's Southern Border.
The news was shared on X by U.S. Northern Command, speaking on behalf of the "Joint Task Force-Southern Border."
According to the post, the fatal crash occurred around 8:50 a.m. local time on Tuesday. Two service members died at the scene, while a third was transported to a hospital in "serious condition."

The crash happened "near Santa Teresa, New Mexico," though no further details about the circumstances have been released at this time. The identities of those involved have not yet been disclosed.
KTSM-TV reported that the incident took place on New Mexico Highway 9. Emergency crews, including firefighters, responded to the scene near the Santa Teresa Border Patrol Station just before 10 a.m.
Back in March, U.S. Northern Command established the "Joint Task Force-Southern Border" with the goal to "tactically synchronize Department of Defense (DOD) efforts to secure and seal the southern border."
A source cited by The New York Times—whose name was not revealed—claimed that the service members involved in the crash were Marines. The report also noted that roughly 9,000 troops are currently deployed along the border region.

In response to the incident, Democratic Representative Gabe Vasquez of New Mexico released a statement via KFOX-TV, expressing his sorrow over the "tragic loss."
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two service members today near Santa Teresa,” he said. “My thoughts are with their families, loved ones, and fellow service members during this difficult time.”
Vasquez added, “With the recent deployments to and the new mission at the Southern border, we must fully review the circumstances surrounding this incident. We owe it to them—and all who serve—to ensure their safety is never compromised.”
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
