U.S. Launches Fresh Strikes After Iranian Aggression Threatens Regional Waters
The United States carried out a new round of military strikes over the weekend after Iranian forces escalated tensions in the Middle East, targeting American assets and threatening commercial shipping routes in one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors.
U.S. Central Command announced in a post on X that it “conducted self-defense strikes on Iranian radar and command and control sites for drones in Goruk, Iran and Qeshm Island this weekend.”
“The measured and deliberate strikes occurred on Saturday and Sunday in response to aggressive Iranian actions that included the shootdown of a U.S. MQ-1 drone that was operating over international waters,” CENTCOM posted.
The strikes came after Iranian actions posed what U.S. officials described as direct threats to American assets and vessels moving through regional waters.
“U.S. fighter aircraft swiftly responded by eliminating Iranian air defenses, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones that posed clear threats to ships transiting regional waters.”
In a recent conversation with President Trump, I affirmed my support for a deal with Iran that accepts President Trump’s demand to open up the Strait of Hormuz and start negotiations about forever ending their nuclear ambitions and support for terrorism. CENTCOM emphasized that the operation was defensive in nature and that no U.S. personnel were injured.
“No American service members were harmed. CENTCOM will continue to protect U.S. assets and interests in response to unwarranted Iranian aggression during the ongoing ceasefire,” the post continued.
The latest confrontation underscores the continued volatility in the region as Iranian-backed activity, drone threats, and missile attacks place American forces and allied nations on high alert.
On Monday, Kuwait said it was responding to hostile attacks in its airspace.
“The Kuwaiti air defenses are currently confronting hostile missile and drone attacks. The General Staff of the Army notes that if explosion sounds are heard, they result from the air defense systems intercepting the hostile attacks,” its post said.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed Monday that it had targeted the source of a U.S. strike on a telecommunications facility, according to NBC News.
The IRGC also issued a warning, saying that if the United States continues to pressure Iranian defenses, the next response would be “completely different” and that Washington would bear responsibility.
The renewed exchange follows a similar confrontation last week, when Iran fired on a Kuwait-based air facility after the United States targeted boats and land-based operations that could have threatened shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait remains a vital passageway for global energy markets, making any Iranian disruption a serious concern not only for American security interests but also for the broader international economy.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned Monday on X that Tehran views the conflict as ongoing as long as Israel continues its fight against Hezbollah, Iran’s terrorist proxy in Lebanon.

“The ceasefire between Iran and the US is unequivocally a ceasefire on all fronts, including in Lebanon. Its violation on one front is a violation of the ceasefire on all fronts. The US and Israel are responsible for the consequences of any violation,” he posted.
The statement appeared to further link Iran’s regional strategy to its network of terrorist proxies, while placing pressure on both the United States and Israel as they work to contain threats from Tehran and its allies.
Oil markets reacted quickly to the renewed hostilities. After falling throughout May, prices moved higher Monday as investors responded to the fresh round of attacks. Oil prices rose more than 3 percent early Monday.
During May, Brent futures had dropped 19 percent.
The escalation presents another test for President Donald J. Trump’s administration as it seeks to defend American forces, protect international shipping, and deter Iranian aggression without allowing Tehran to dictate the terms of security in the Middle East.
